What bedding do I buy?

Hi I'm a ftm looking into bedding and getting very confused by it all. In shops you see cots/moses baskets with blankets, but then they also sell sleeping bags. What do I buy for a new born? TIA Smile

Sleeping bags have a minimum weight so a newborn is likely too be too light for one. Are you considering swaddling?

Most sleeping bags have a lower weight limit so a very new baby might be too small for them. DD started out with a cellular blanket until we discovered Grosnugs – a swaddle-esque version of the grobag suitable for small babies under a certain weight. A friend swears by Love to Dream swaddles but DD liked to roll on to her side from the start so I refused to swaddle her.

Sleeping bags definitely easier than blankets for long naps/overnight! But blankets useful for the pram and when snuggling on you, for catnaps; and for swaddling if you want to do that.

Get multiples of everything because they will get covered in sick/poo/wee/calpol/drool/your dinner when you eat over them snoozing.

And for sleeping bags get multiple togs. We had 2x cosy and 2x light grosnugs; 2x 2.5 tog and 2x 1 tog bags.

@dementedpixie I’ve heard about swaddling but not looked into it.

@burritofan thank you. Will take on board your comments.

Another vote for gro bags here soooo much easier than blankets , we used the gro snug and gro swaddle until they were big enough for bags
