Looking for some encouraging words of wisdom!
367 nights of bad sleep. Maybe a few good nights thrown in but RARE!
People always said 'when he starts eating solids he will sleep' or 'when he starts crawling he will sleep' or even 'take him out for long walks to tire him out'... nope, hasn't worked! Pretty much every night we're backwards and forwards to him so please someone tell me he will sleep soon.. surely he will sleep soon!
It's a good job he's so cute and we love him dearly! Grin

It’s very normal for a child to wake up during the night during the first few years. My 2.5 year old continues to wake at night and need me. It took me about 12 months to accept that is normal and okay. We bed share and I find that not looking at the clock until morning helps.

Digestive28 · 20/06/2019 20:19

Hate to disappoint but my six year old still wakes up in the night. It gets easier, now she gets out of her bed and comes into ours and I only notice in the morning so my sleep isn’t broken.

Digestive28 · 20/06/2019 20:20

Have also stopped telling people about non sleeping children because you get advice which doesn’t work or promises that are broken (once have solids...start school)

Drogonssmile · 20/06/2019 20:21

My 2.5 yo still wakes every night and is up at 5am every morning.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 20/06/2019 20:23

What’s his bedtime routine?

Seaandsand83 · 20/06/2019 20:24

Both mine didn't sleep through and had multiple waking til they were 3 😩😩

MerryDeath · 20/06/2019 20:28

mine was terrible. we coslept until 15 months when we did 🤭 controlled crying/and even a bit of cry it out. he caught on within 2 or 3 days but still woke during the night for another day or 2 after that. he's amazing at sleeping through now, and not traumatised! should have done it sooner!

Try the little ones sleep programme. It promotes self settling and a good daily routine (no CIO, all v.supportive). I've used it with DD since she was 4weeks mainly because I had no idea what I was doing and needed some sort of structure. Shes slept through since she started weaning properly. The theory is that they should sleep through when they've had sufficient food, milk, naps and play times post weaning. I would highly recommend it.

BishopofBathandWells · 20/06/2019 20:44

My DD is 16 months and still wakes at least once a night. Thank God she generally settles quite quickly, it's like she just wants the reassurance that I'm still around. I'm quite resigned to it now, but I've haven't had a full night's sleep since the early days of my pregnancy.

If you find the secret, please let me know! Grin

SunshineSpring · 20/06/2019 20:45

Even if he doesn't sleep through, there will come a point where he doesn't need to disturb you, even though he is awake.
I've just sent my none sleeper upstairs for a shower on his own, to give an indication of his age 😴

DeadDoorpost · 20/06/2019 20:49

DS18months still waking. Its normal. And a massive pain especially as im pregnant and exhausted 😨

MummyToABoyy · 01/07/2019 19:20

Thank you for everyone's messages.
He has a solid bedtime routine - has since he was 4 months old. I've even seen a sleep consultant who was amazed at how brilliant his bedtime routine is, unfortunately her advice and guidance hasn't worked! I have tried everything..
I am sure it is normal for them to still wake, but the other night it was 7 times within 3 hours (1-4am) and I was awake that whole time as everytime I made it back to my room, he woke up again! On a bad night it's every hour, on a good night it's 2/3 times and when he's teething sleep is non existent Grin
He's such a happy, clever little boy but i am patiently waiting for my time to come for when he will sleep!

@DeadDoorpost I feel for you so much for getting up in the night whilst expecting! Congratulations though! The thought of having another whilst having one who already doesn't sleep very well terrifies me! Grin

@mummytoaboyy my DS is 13m and exactly the same, wakes loads still! He self settles to sleep which i was told was going to be the turning point.....

No suggestions just that you are not alone Grin

FirstTimeToddlerMum · 01/07/2019 20:05

Following this thread hoping someone will come along with some miracle that I can use for my 16 month old. DP is still in there now trying to get him to sleep. When we spoke to midwife/ sleep consultant they where the same and couldn't find a flaw in his bedtime routine (not being a wanky mum , just a very textbook standard routine)

In the end they resorted to helping us as the parents cope with the lack of sleep Grin

Yes he's cute but there's nothing quite like sleep deprivation and I'm getting sick of my own "shh shh shh it's ok mummy's here" voice. He doesn't settle quickly when he wakes , it takes quite a lot and he won't take a bottle when he wakes either Sad

MummyToABoyy · 01/07/2019 20:18

@Skiaddicted oh yes, mine is more than capable of self settling! Sometimes he doesn't and wants me, usually more so when he's teething or poorly etc. But he will still wake up. Only the rare occasion he will sleep until morning!
Nice to know I'm not the only one.. when they're younger you expect it but now he's over a year old I feel like one of the minority with a waking baby! Grin

@FirstTimeToddlerMum completely agree. Sleep is so important to us especially with being on the go all day with them!
Working alongside that too is another story!
I don't think there is an answer sometimes, I genuinely think it's a case of hanging in there. Thanks

How did they suggest you cope with the lack of sleep @firsttimetoddlermum?

I really thought i was alone in having such a bad sleeper! He sleeps worse now than as a newborn Hmm

MazDazzle · 01/07/2019 20:33

I watched The Baby Whisper vidéos on YouTube and followed the book. After only a couple of nights thy were sleeping through, except for the odd occasion when they were ill or teething.
