No room for my baby!

Im 19 years old and i live with my family as my baby’s father doesn’t want to be involved in her life, I live in a very small house with them and I have to share a bedroom with the baby, but my bedroom is so small I can barely fit a Moses basket in, my baby is just over one month old and looks like she will outgrow her basket soon as she’s a long baby. I have no room at all for a cot in the bedroom and I don’t feel safe co-sleeping :( has anyone got any advice on what I can do?

Have you got a single bed?
Or a double?
Have you got much other furniture in the room?

Congratulations on your baby. It won’t be this way forever

Can you give us an idea of what else is in your room? And what size your bed is? Travel cots are often smaller than cots and should be fine for your baby with a decent mattress.

While you still have the security of living with your parents the best thing you could possibly do for your future is to plan what studies you are going to pursue once the baby is eligible for free childcare hours, and aim to get a job that will enable you to support them.

Do you have a single or double bed in the room? Is there a wardrobe or chest of drawers? Is there any way you could get underbed storage to remove any other furniture items from the room to fit a cot?

Windygate · 18/06/2019 12:10

Have you got a double or single bed? I'm wondering if there is some possible rearranging that can be done.

What about a high sleeper with the cot underneath? It's not a great solution but may work in the short term?

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 18/06/2019 17:35

I personally would never sleep underneath my newborn baby in that way, and also there will not be much air circulating.

Gigia · 18/06/2019 22:47

Gin she would be above the baby not underneath it?? Furthermore the same air circulates no matter where the bed is? Also I realise it is not ideal but if the OP is not confident co sleeping I am not sure what other suggestions there are?

RaspberryBubblegum · 18/06/2019 23:36

High sleeper/loft bed might not be a bad idea! Ikea even do a double loft bed. They also do singles though if that would give more space.

@Gigia I meant sleep above with a baby underneath

@Ginlinessisnexttogodliness I still don't understand why this would concern you so much? As the OP has explained she has very limited space, what else do you suggest?
