Weaning DS out of the Sleepyhead

We bought a Sleepyhead for DS when he was a couple of weeks old as he only wanted to sleep in our arms, luckily it really helped and for his age (now 3 months) he is a really brilliant sleeper. The Sleepyhead is used for his night sleep in a Tutti Bambini crib attached to my side of the bed. As the Sleepyhead is quite padded at the top and DS is quite a long baby we are slowly running out of room in there but he would still have plenty of room in the crib without it, so ideally I’d like him to sleep in it without the Sleepyhead! I haven’t tried this since he was a couple of weeks old as he just wouldn’t sleep without it unless he was on my chest. Does anyone have any success stories on how they weaned their baby out of it? my only plan at the moment is to go cold turkey and just try it. He wears a sleeping bag at night so he would still have the coziness if that.

We went cold turkey once she started rolling over and it was totally fine.

I took the foam tube thing out of the liner and wrapped a large muslin round it, then put it around the edge of her mattress. So she still had something there, just more spaced out. After a couple of days of that I took it away and she was fine. Just make sure you secure the foam thing so that it can't move over her face.

Went cold turkey at four months old ish. First night bit iffy but then fine after that. Or normal at least, not a great sleeper anyway!

Thanks everyone. Tried it for the first night last night. He was fine for a couple of hours but then after that kept doing the startling reflex and hitting his arms and legs against the crib and waking himself up when dozing off. I think because he’s being cocooned it was a bit strange to him. No tears though. Going to try again tonight.

Not bad! I had very similar, first night I couldn't resettle after a wake up two or three hours after bedtime so gave in and put back in Sleepyhead, next night I persevered with the resettling in cot, had a few wake ups. Third night slept like usual (badly!)

Thank you @dragonfruitshoot , I’ll try and persevere tonight but it’s so hard isn’t it when you just want sleep! I’ll see eggs tonight brings...

I got the big one and bought his full size cot into our room with my first then took it out cold turkey. Had a few entertaining nights of him rolling around. About to need to do same with the second...

I used the SH from birth as I found it easier to pick baby up from it following C Section. Whilst it had its use, I did regret purchasing it (and the subsequent sized one) as it was difficult for DS to adjust without it. I remember that we didn't use it on a holiday and the fact that he was I different surrounds distracted him from not having the SH. We never used it again after that and there were no sleep problems.

Have you opened the clip so his legs are out but body and arms are still in the horseshoe bit? That's we did and it lasted until baby went in their own room and crib and helped us transfer to a new set up. Then we started with naps without it and then worked up to all sleeps. It worked really well.

You dont have to have the clip at the bottom in, try it open if he is too long.
