8 month old waking at night

My little girl is 8 months old and has suddenly started waking at night, always around the same time. She's always been a great sleeper and has slept through the night since she was 2 and a half months old. For the last week she has woke screaming and will not settle and go to sleep until I lift her. I've tried settling her in the cot, tried soothing her back to sleep but she just wont have it. As soon as I lift her she stops crying and is asleep in seconds, but will wake after 5 mins of being back in the cot. Any tips? I do not want her getting used to sleeping on me at night!

Is she teething, could she have an ear infection, is she snotty? Rule out the health stuff first. If she is definitely healthy then consider if she is too hot or too cold, is the room not dark enough, if there are no problems there, then consider gently letting her learn to self sooth

No she's fine health wise, nothing like that is bothering her. She is teething but as soon as I lift her she settles so I cant imagine thats bothering her otherwise she would continue to cry when I pick her up. I have tried letting her cry and see if she will settle herself but she gets so worked up she nearly makes herself sick

Its worth double checking the ears though, mine used to have stealth ear infections, the only sign would be that they hated lying flat. Their ears would be bulging pussy horrors and they were starting to get speech delayed. The only way to really know is have the GP check. Also did she have reflux as a little baby? Another thing that gets worse when they lie down. If there really is no health problem, you will need to decide if you want to gently sleep train. Otherwise she will want you to pick her up whenever she stirs, because what baby wouldnt want a cuddle from Mummy asap

I know it's not her ears, she'll lie flat happily enough through the day and when she's in the bed with me. No she's never suffered with reflux or anything. As much as I love cuddles with her I try my best not to lift her at night if I can avoid it. I always try and settle her without lifting her first, usually just giving her the dummy settles her and a little stroke on her cheek but nothing but me lifting her is working now
