When did your toddler give up naps?

I ask because I can hear ds (2 last week) chattering away to himself having been in bed since 1:15pm.

When he does fall asleep, he'll be down for 2-3 hours. If we're out and he doesn't nap, he's obviously tired, but fine.

Will there be days ( like today potentially ) when he just doesn't need a sleep, or do I keep putting him to bed at 1pm-ish?

What are the signs that he's ready to drop a regular nap. I think he should still have a nap, but sometimes he has other ideas. He sleeps 7pm - 8:30am btw.

ds2 (3 in June) only just starting to go without a nap on some days. Tends to fall asleep if we have to go anywhere in the car though, which is a pain if we are out till late in the day. I don't really want him napping at 6:00pm.

Ds1 gave up his naps just before his 3rd birthday. Coincided when I had ds2. Just when I needed him to nap !

The fact that he sleeps from 7pm to 8:30am looks like a pretty good sign that he's ready to do without a nap.

Mine is 29 months and rarely naps during the day anymore, and it was probably around her 2nd birthday that it changed.

Now she'll usually sleep approx 7:15pm to 6:45am and she's absolutely fine on that much sleep. She will sometimes fall asleep in the car in the afternoon. And I will also put her down for a nap if she hasn't slept well the night before (for example, if we're out late she will still wake up at the same time in the morning). But on a normal day she's happy, but tired and ready for bed, at bedtime.

To be honest, expecting him to sleep 13.5 hours at night and also taking a nap during the day is pushing your luck IMO. He's sleeping so well at night - be happy with that.

I've just gone into his room and told him to sleep and it's all gone quiet! Maybe he was sleepy after all. We've always said he was born a student
