Confused as to where baby should sleep during the day

Hi
I am a first time mum to be and trying to buy everything in preparation. The pram (nuna mixx) comes with a carrycot but no available stand in the UK. I was thinking of a Next to Me crib with the side down. I’ll also get a bouncer that lays flat. However, i’m confused about where to put him to sleep during the day. If i use carrycot then it will have to stay attached to the pram (as no stand). I don’t really want to move the upstairs crib and sleeping in a bouncer isn’t ideal? Will i need to get a moses basket just for downstairs?

Use the carrycot on the floor, or when a bit bigger just on the playmat/blanket on the floor

Mine sleeps either:
On me 😍
In pram carry cot in lounge which I’ve stuck on a Moses basket stand that I bought second hand for £5
In Moses basket upstairs
In bouncy chair
In pram / car seat

They say they should be downstairs during the day. Personally I don't see the need at all. My son only ever slept in his crib upstairs. I hate Moses baskets so I'd never ever have one. We had a video monitor and I checked on him regularly.

Happymummy your choice, but I doubt you have the medical expertise to change the NHS guidelines on safe sleeping and lowering of the risks of SIDS.

Just put carrycot on floor - unless you've got a nosey dog or something

stellarfox · 12/06/2019 03:16

We’ve gone for the Uppababy pram and we’re using that carrycot downstairs. We bought a Moses basket stand to use with it which works fine! Might work with yours too?

Jonette · 12/06/2019 03:28

Mine had a Moses basket which I moved into the bedroom at night. We had a pushchair, no pram, and a car seat for whenever we travelled by car, but mostly she was in the Moses basket. It was a pain (c-section) carrying it into the bedroom at night and back out in the morning, but it worked.
You're risking confusing things with the amount of things the baby has to sleep in.

LoveYourHome9 · 12/06/2019 03:48

Same as all the above.

Carrycot attached to pram, assuming it will fit somewhere. My first one wouldn’t fit through front door!

Carrycot on its own on floor or table etc when baby is very young and doesn’t move!

Moses basket.

Bouncy chair - I used this more than anything else. He would go in after feeding and then just nod off.

All three of mine slept in the pram downstairs and shock horror cot from birth upstairs.

Wallywobbles · 12/06/2019 05:17

Ours always slept in the cot in their bedrooms. I had a single bed in their rooms for the first few months where I moved to in the middle of the night. That way they'd always slept in their bedroom and their bed so no battles about that later.

I had a small futon (about the same size as a cot mattress) and just moved it to a corner of whatever room I was in. Used it as a “travel cot” too. But I was a bit of a hippy.

Moses basket.

We had a video monitor and I checked on him regularly

This is against the SIDS guidelines. Babies need to be in the same roon as you for the first months, not only so you can see them, but so they're aware of you. Being aware of your breathing (even when they're asleep!) helps regulate their own breathing and this is protective against SIDS.

“They say they should be downstairs during the day. Personally I don't see the need at all.“

Please ignore this dangerous post.

We always used the carrycot downstairs - as pps have said, it gave the option of rocking or even going for a walk if they needed help to settle. That was 30 odd years ago.
DC and DIL were advised that most rocker chairs are not suitable to begin with as they don't lie completely flat. They were advised to use cot, crib, Moses basket or even to place dgs on the playgym mat on the floor to nap. As long as they are protected from draughts, the floor was fine.

MyNameIsRachel · 12/06/2019 14:56

I hold my baby for all naps. It is an option.

MyNameIsRachel · 12/06/2019 14:57

I guess I should had option for first time mum.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 12/06/2019 14:59

I used a Moses basket for all three of the dses - when they were little, it went on a table downstairs, and on the stand upstairs, by our bed. When they were a bit bigger, but hadn't out grown it, I used to take the basket upstairs at bedtime and put it in the cot - I thought that was a good way to ease them into sleeping in the cot, because they were in the familiar basket, but the unfamiliar cot - if that makes any sense at all.

grumpycatgrumpycat · 14/06/2019 08:33

Park the pram in the house? Motion is your friend in getting a nap fighting baby to sleep!

hammeringinmyhead · 15/06/2019 17:51

We used a bouncer. It didn't lie flat but wasn't far off. Otherwise he slept on the breastfeeding cushion on our laps.

Hedgehogblues · 15/06/2019 18:00

She's just grown out of her moses basket so we got her a second hand Next to Me crib. Mostly she sleeps on me during the day though
