With a combination of rocking him to sleep, warming the crib and slowly removing our hands when putting him down, our first son slept relatively smoothly.
This time round things are different. He has been diagnosed with Laryngomalacia, which means he sometimes makes a rattling or wheezing sounding noise when he breathes. It also means he suffers from reflux, and previously was throwing up quite a lot.
GP believes it to be mild, and has prescribed medication for the reflux which has stopped the vomitting.
Where we are having difficulty still is with sleeping. First two weeks he napped in the day and slept at night in the cot on his back just fine.
We are very well aware of all of the research into the safest sleeping positions and the great advice offered by the Lullaby trust.
A few weeks ago we gave in trying to put him on his back as he we hit 1am several days in a row with him having slept for a total of 10 minutes in the last four hours. I won't go through everything, but I'm confident we really gave this our best shot.
We have in and he has been in the bed, sleeping on us for the last few weeks - something we never envisaged.
We are wanting to get him back into the cot and are looking at the most realistic way of achieving this.
It's hard to say with certainty why he wakes up so quickly / frequently when he's on his back in the cot, but we wonder whether it is because of the reflux.
Really looking forward to hearing some practical solutions, particularly from any other parents of children with reflux.
