What's the average age a child will start sleepwalking at?

I mean, I guess they're physically capable of doing it from when they're able to walk; but interested to know what the usual age (if there is one) it happens is. (And if it can explain some unusual happenings in the 2Happy household!) TIA

I swear my dd sleep-crawled at about 8-9 months. There were a couple of very odd instances indeed..

I think somewhere between 18months and 3yrs (very rough recollection there) children can begin to experience night terrors. One part of that can be sleepwalking.

Sometimes it can happen as the result of a emotional shock/upheaval.

I started sleepwalking at 2 after my granny died (reason we still have a baby gate on stairs is cos I can remember falling down stairs while sleepwalking).

obviously I only remember cos the shock/pain woke me up.

Not always emotional shock, something to do with development (though can't remember what)

I shall give up and go now

Aaaaah, now that is a relief. For some reason I had thought they started much later, like 6 or something. ds1 is 2.1, so in fact is prime age for it. Thank you both very much.

Erm, and, er, is it normal to be a bit freaked out by it?!!! The thought of your child wandering around, opening and closing doors, talking, but asleep. Weird.

quite normal I'd say.

Ds went through a phase of sitting up in bed adn screaming, before lying back down asleep. Used to freak teh hell out of me

He was fine, couldn't remember it, completely unbothered.

Thank you! And at least it means I'm not going utterly insane and hallucinating stuff!
