Cot bed and junior bed mattresses-sleep problems!

Hi!just thought i would mention something that probably most sleep deprived mothers have already thought about.i have found that when you are trying to put your child to bed in a cot bed or junior bed and you have problems, its usually those horrid, plastic, cold mattresses that are at the bottom of the problem.children i know who have slept on these mattresses hated their bed and didnt sleep well.(including my own)i tried putting furry blankets on the mattress to make it cosy and like a "real mattress" but didnt work.then i found out a friend of mine had foam cut to size and had it in her childrens bed on top of the horrid mattresses.(i know they are safety mattresses but the sleepers were over 3 years)in desperation i tried it and it worked well.(mines had sleep problems anyway)but found she slept quite a bit better.my nephew who had always been a great sleeper started to sleep in the junior bed and his mother was beside herself as he just didnt sleep well and kept appearing in her bed.so we got her some foam and immediately the problems stopped.(for him he liked the extra height it gave his bed, and a bed guard worked to prevent accidents)one other relative has since tried this and found too it cured the problem of sleep disturbances.Obviously you could go out and by a real mattress, but its much cheaper to use the foam, and for some who dont have the room for a full size bed,at the moment means the junior size is handy.those mattress are very uncomfy and feel nothing like mummy and daddys bed so whether it has been coincidence,or whether kids really do hate those mattress, its worth a try.i think a lot of parents overlook this reason for kids hating their new beds and not sleeping well.hope this helps someone!
