Sleep consultants on a budget

Hi,

There have been loads of threads asking the same question but most of them seem old, and some sleep consultants don’t seem to practice anymore. Can anyone recommend a sleep consultant who will provide a remote consultation and a written sleep plan for under £150? I’ve seem some overnight stay packages for £150-200, so I feel it’s overpriced to pay the same for a call and a few emails.

Need help from them with nap extension, frequent night wake ups and weaning of the breast to fall asleep.

Thanks!

To clarify, we don’t feel we want someone staying overnight and neither do we have any such service offered locally for a low budget anyway.

I think unfortunately it’s one of the things where you get what you pay for.
I have seen the cheaper ones do more harm than good and the entire industry is completely unregulated so there’s no recourse.

If you google family sleep consultant we used a Diane who I believe offers online plans. She was brilliant although I think her telephone consultants and plan are about £165

Huckleberry app will analyse sleep patterns and give quite constructive advice for

Not the cheapest but worth every penny IME.

Just buy a sleep training book like the Happy Sleeper.

starsinyourpies · 01/06/2019 19:42

Health visitors can support with this for free in the UK. Or read a book and do what it says.

Thanks everyone!
What sort of harm are we talking about, GenevaMaybe? I thought they prescribe a plan based on what parents are happy with.

Myusername2015, was Diane pro or against CIO? The package sounds alright, if I don’t find anyone cheaper. It’s the cost of a weekend away (which we obviously waved bye bye to when I gave birth) and I honestly can’t put a price on sleep.

Is Huckleberry app genuinely helpful and personalised or is it just a collection of reading material that can be found via Google?

Thatsnotmyotter, wish we lived in one of those areas because I would have loved the overnight package.

BlueBrushing, I’m so sleep deprived and overloaded with information, as well as having no time to read books because my LO naps no more than 40 minutes at a time. Wish I could, plenty of good ones out there.

Starsinyourpies, lucky you to have had a helpful and knowledgeable Health Visitor. We have had 3 of them, and the advice ranged from ‘some babies just don’t sleep well’ to ‘leave him to cry, you shouldn’t hold him’. Do you honestly think I would be asking about sleep consultants if I had the energy or time to read books? I have spent weeks looking up advice and reading about sleep training methods, there are dozens of methods which all claim to be fantastic. It’s now time for me to get professional advice and support that no book can provide me the way an actual person can.

To add to my previous post, all books offer blanket approaches to sell copies to a large audience (or offer options but you would have to figure out your own action plan). Sleep consultants provide tailored advice to a specific family, which might not work for the family next door, and that’s why I’m looking for recommendations.

She said she wasn’t a CIO fan but equally she said we had to be prepared that there would be some tears (mainly frustration from my little one) she was great at helping me get my little one into a routine and now “touch wood” he has slept 7.30-7.30 religiously for well over a year. Definitely I think money well spent as posters above have said we could read a book and work it out but when you are in the midst of exhaustion someone who can come up with a logical plan is a lifesend. It’s funny only last night when I was talking to someone about money well spent/money wasted I said without a shadow of a doubt this was the best money I ever spent. Best of luck with it

PandaMum88 · 02/06/2019 08:48

@yawnzzz Have you used the Huckleberry service? I use the free part just to track sleep/feeds and was thinking about trying their service but wasn't sure if it would be worth it?

yawnzzz · 02/06/2019 09:03

Yes I did, just for one month in desperation to see if it would help. It was very detailed but I didn’t manage to follow their advice fully and baby still doesn’t sleep well so I can’t really review it fairly but it seems to be a cheap way to get a personal analysis.
To be honest I think sleep is developmental and they will do it in their own time and you just have to survive until then. Of course whatever trick you happen to be trying at the time will get the credit..

StrongInside · 03/06/2019 21:01

Sounds good to me. I will honestly cry tears of happiness when our LO sleeps through, and if it means some tears of frustration on his part, so be it.
