Has learnt to stand in cot - now won't sleep

Just that really. Has been learning to pull himself up, stand and sit back down, and cruise the furniture over the last two weeks.

Initially it led to amazing monster naps of up to 2 hours (he was a 30 minute kinda guy beforehand).

But now that he's learnt to pull himself up to standing in the cot?!.... We'll, that's the most fun thing ever isn't it? Sad Since Saturday, no cot naps have been achieved. He is fed to sleep/drowsiness at night so that hasn't been a problem yet.

Please tell me the novelty wears off and he'll stop this soon? He stands all day so it's not that he isn't getting the practice in! And he is also able to sit himself down so it's not that he's stuck.

Is there anything I can do?

He is nearly 9 months old.

I can only tell you what I did. DS loved his nursery rhyme music and would stand in his cot and dance to it. He would then have such tired legs he would lie down and go to sleep.
A few months later he learned to climb out of the cot.
Every phase brings a new challenge. Unfortunately you can't stop them growing and developing.
Just when you think you have got them into a routine, it all changes again.

I love that!!!

I know, I can't keep up with the changes!

I'm following this thread in hopes it gets better.
Mine has just learnt this (he turned 8months today) he used to be great at nap times but now he's just interested in pulling himself up at everything.
He has a musical elephant in his cot which seems to be quite useful as the music helps him sleep. Maybe try a little soothing music at nap times to help yours?
I really hope you find a solution 😊

I have a Ewan which is usually set to white noise but has a musical setting. I might switch to that and see if it helps. We've even tried reintroducing dummy which he only ever has on planes, but it didn't work today.

I've gone out and left his dad to it today. He goes back to work tomorrow so this is Mummy's Day Off. Grin

It's so frustrating isn't it!

Mine was just getting the hang of falling asleep in the cot with me next to her on the floor comforting her, now she can sit up and stand up it's hopeless. I've gone backwards and rocking her to sleep now.

Watching here with interest!!

I should've known the monster naps resulting from the physical exertion of standing wouldn't last. To good to be true...

A friend has just suggested trying mittens so that he can't use his hands to climb up (although her little one managed to take them off). Might be worth a try....

Would he nap if you walked him in the buggy? Just to address the sleep debt/overtiredness?

This happened to a friend. Was hell for about three weeks then did apparently get better.

He's becoming resistant to buggy naps these days. Too interested in what's going on.

I should add that I did have some cot nap success today. After 31 times of lying him back down (yes, 31), I couldn't take it any longer and left him to it whilst I watched on the monitor. He eventually laid down after a few mins and slept for over 2 hours!!

No trick to this. May just have been lucky.

Well done op. Hope it lasts. I guess we end up tiring them out like this!
