Just don't know what to do

We've made a rod for our own backs I know, our 13 month old falls asleep in the Sleepyhead (the smaller one) on the sofa downstairs with us. We've kept him there till we go to bed and that's worked up until a few weeks ago.

He's recently learnt how to sit up from lying down and wakes in the night and sits up. He will not settle in his cot and we end up giving in and bringing him in with us.

Last night when he woke we tried the sleep training method however after 10 minutes of torture we gave in again. I know the issue is that he's maybe not used to his cot as he's in the Sleepyhead on the sofa for the first part of the night. So tonight I changed up the routine. Bath, bottle. Book and bed (his actual cot). I sat in the room but didn't look at him. Soon as I lay him down he was sat back up and the crying started. This time I lasted 25 minutes before giving in and bringing him back downstairs.

I've just been diagnosed with PND and the stress of all of this isn't helping. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions we could try because mummy and daddy are tired and stressed! Sad

Could you try putting the sleepyhead in the cot so it’s not too much of a change for him? Maybe leave some lullaby’s on for him and maybe a little nightlight so it’s similar to being downstairs (as in not pitch black and silent) I’d try and be consistent for a few nights as i doubt it’s something he’ll pick up in a night or two. Good luck

Sleepyhead in the cot?

If he's used to going to sleep downstairs with you then he might need some quiet noise to help him drift off? CBeebies radio turned down low or white noise app perhaps?

Thanks everyone.

We had one of the Sleepyhead Grande in his cot, we've tried both with and without it. Doesn't make a difference.

He has the grow egg as a night light in his room.

Last night I had white noise (ocean waves) on the iPad but again didn't make a difference.

He's currently crying his heart out in the cot, I've been going in every 10 minutes and putting him on his back only for him to just get back up again. It's been 40 minutes so far.

I would try this -
www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.motherandbaby.co.uk/amp/baby-and-toddler/baby/baby-sleep-problems-solved/get-a-full-night-s-sleep-in-just-10-days

It needs you to be consistent and determined to see it through, but it will work and doesn’t involve leaving them alone to cry, which is what I always found too upsetting to do. Hope you crack it!!
