Any alternative to the bunny clock?

Hi, DD1 (age 5) wakes first and we tried to set her up with the bunny clock to say don't call out until the ears go up (as she can't tell the time yet).

However, either she would be asleep and the ears would shoot up and wake her up, or she would be awake and the ears going up would make her jump and she didn't like it! A waste of £20 sadly!

It does seem a bit daft to have such noisy ears! Anyone know of a clock with say a light which comes on or something a bit more subtle? Thanks.

We had a bunny clock for ds but it broke so for dd we have a wall light (pink flower from Ikea) on a timer. Its night till the light comes on. perfect!!!

funnypeevesculiar · 19/07/2007 20:28

oohhh, there is one - someone linked it kindly for me before - but ds sorrted himslef out & we never needed it - will try to find the thread now...

fingerwoman · 19/07/2007 20:29

yes this one

unfortunately even more expensive than good old mr bunny

CountTo10 · 19/07/2007 20:29

We also have the light on the wall with a timer and its worked wonders. DS sometimes even just sits playing for a while before he tells us he's awake.

iota · 19/07/2007 20:29

you could just use a plug in timer attached to a lamp

Chattyhan · 19/07/2007 20:29

blooming marvellous have a light version but it's 36.99! here

tassisssss · 19/07/2007 20:29

cod has linked to a great wall clock in the past that has traffic light coloured sections and you can just use the small hand - so small hand at anything before 6 (or whatever time you choose) is red which means GO BACK TO SLEEP, between 6 and 7 is orange which means play quietly in your bed (or whatever) and after 7 is green - you can get up.

Shout for cod and see if she'll link to it. It looked great.

Otherwise fairy lights on a timer?

iota · 19/07/2007 20:29

count to ten you were there before me

lisasimpson · 19/07/2007 20:30

there is a clock with traffic light colours on which you set yourself i.e. when the time is in the red segment it is still night, amber get up time on a weekday and green for get up on weekend or something like that, but can't remember where I saw it. I will check. There is also one with an illuminated day and night image - maybe someone else will remember!

princessmel · 19/07/2007 20:30

iota · 19/07/2007 20:32

oh b@llocks princessmel, why do I waste time looking up links?

tassisssss · 19/07/2007 20:34

(lisasimpson - i may have got there first but you explained it a whole lot better!)

tassisssss · 19/07/2007 20:37

you really have to look at the traffic light clock

if you put "clock segments" into a search for messages thing (on MN!) it'll be there!

tassisssss · 19/07/2007 20:38

3 threads will pop up...it's in the middle one

(note to self - learn to do links!)

princessmel · 19/07/2007 20:39

he he he iota I take ages with links too!!!

tassisssss · 19/07/2007 20:39

at least you guys bother to do them!

iota · 19/07/2007 20:43

come on tassisssss

you can do it if you try

tassisssss · 19/07/2007 20:46

one day!

go on someone, link to it!

it looks great!

Elf · 19/07/2007 20:56

That was quick! Thanks everyone. I have looked at the arf kid (?) link which was great. Another link didn't work. Lots of food for thought, I'm glad there are lots of things out there - from £1 to £36 it seems! We've thought of the light on a timer but it would surely click on and I know if that were me, a click would wake me. Anyway, I shall check it all out more thoroughly with your info. Thank you very much.

Put it away from the bed. Not right next to her ear then surely that wont wake her?
Believe me, I'm a worrier about things waking my children and even I hadn't thought of that!!!

Rubybees · 19/07/2007 21:09

We put in a digital clock for my ds also 5 and told him he can come out when it says 7.00 or after!

It works a treat, he wakes up around 6.30, plotters into the loo then goes back into his room till then

hth also cheap! less than £2 from Mr T's
