Shuffling in cot

My 8mo DS is waking several times a night as he's scooting up to the top of his cot and banging his head. I can resettle him easily but is there a way to stop this in the first place? He's in a grobag.

DH jokingly suggested a Velcro affair to keep him rooted at the bottom. I guess this is what bumpers are for? Are they safe? Can I tether him in some way or will this phase just pass.

How hard are they bashing their head?? My 10 month old did this for a while but now sleeps fine. It's just a phase they adjust to.

Bumpers are really dangerous so prob not worth the risk

dd1 used to turn sideways and wedge her head and feet crossways against the bars. She stopped eventually.

No suggestions but I kp finding 4 month old dd squatting down the bottom of her crib more often than not with a leg wedged between the bars. No ideas how to stop that either.

I use an Air Wrap bumper on both DS (2) and DD (8mths) cotbeds. It's a breathable cot bumper (can get on amazon and John Lewis and probably lots of other places).

DS used to scoot all round his cot in the night and get various limbs stuck through the bars/roll into the side and bang his head. For me personally this seemed to help.

Thanks all. I don't think he's bumping his head very hard at all, I certainly don't think he's hurting himself. It's more like he's run out of space to keep going so wakes up. Then I reset him back to the bottom of the cot and the cycle starts again

Just a thought - my dds crib has been propped up at the head as she had a really bad chest at one point. It was only after reading this thread last night I thought I would remove the books. Last time I put her down she didn't shuffle to the bottom. Maybe propping the head up of his cot might help your ds?
