Two year old bedtime boogy

Hi everyone,

Two year old has been a brilliant sleeper (as far as babies and toddlers go). She usually sleeps from 19:00 until 06:30 (when our alarm goes off for work. Since last month (when she turned two) she has gone to bed happily but will not sleep. Just tosses and turns, taking at least two hours each night. Getting out of bed etc. Just doesn't seem tired?? But is definitely tired at the end of the day...

For context, DH works full time, I work four days. She's in nursery two days and with her nana the other two. She has plenty of outside time and lots of time with friends/toys/toddler groups/activities etc.

No change to bedtime routine. She's in a toddler bed and has been, happily for about six months.

Any advice greatly received!

Does she still have a nap?

fizzybubblepop · 05/05/2019 20:11

Does she have a nap in the day time? I had this exact same issue with my DS. I cut out day time sleep and it worked a treat! He sometimes falls asleep in the car if we're out in the afternoon but as long as he doesn't have more than about half an hour he seems to be ok.
Bedtimes are a breeze now!

Get rid of daytime nap

Just coming out of this phase after 4 months of bed time shenanigans. For me it was definitely time and length of his nap. My DS needs 6-7 hours between nap ending and bed time, which also meant massively reducing his nap from 2-3 hours to 30mins/1 hour.

Just to add, hes almost 2 and definitely still needs a nap. I can skip the nap some days, but means staying at home all day, as soon as we got in the car he'd be asleep unless we went out and got home before 10am, which isn't feasible where we live.

Thanks so much everyone. I forgot to say that she does still have a nap, both at home and at nursery. She usually takes at least an hour. Sometimes nearly two hours!

When she didn't take her nap at nursery one day last week she went straight to sleep, it is was amazing!

The days naps are skipped are long and drawn out, but pretty amazing come bed time when they instantly fall asleep. Its bliss Grin.

If she's having up to 2 hours I'd look to reduce nap length. What time is her nap?
