So I coslept with both of my previous children for differing lengths of time from a couple of months to a year. However that was in a low king size bed which felt like it had plenty of space.

We now have a totally different bed which has a firm mattress but is really high off the ground and seems small for a king size. Add to that we have an attic bedroom and only one feasible configuration for the bed which doesn't allow us to press the bed fully against the wall as I would have preferred.

So here's the crux of my question - are things like sleepyhead etc worth the money to create a safe cosleeping space? If you have other solutions that have worked for you to prevent the possibility of baby rolling out of bed? I'm aware of all the basics like keeping bedding away and not having pillows around the baby. We aren't smokers etc.

We had a Baby Dan Sleep Nest, cheaper version of a sleepyhead, but the same concept. It was great, and so handy. DS slept through the first night he was in it. There's also the option of a next to me crib?

We got a babybay. The height adjustment meant it fits even on our bed which has a deep mattress and a topper.

I am considering a next to me crib too, I'm concerned about fastening it to our bed though as we don't have bed posts along the side of the bed it's like a large wooden frame with storage drawers at the bottom, more similar in shape to a divan. Any knowledge of whether a next to me can be used on beds like that?

I think it can be used with divan style based BUT look carefully in to the height it goes to. I too have a fairly high bed and when researching this discovered most ‘next to me’ type cribs don’t go high enough. The highest one I found was the SnuzPod 3 (not earlier models) which would go JUST high enough but the baby’s mattress would be a couple of inches below mine.

Thanks @modgepodge! Good to know. I might pick up a second hand next to me and see if it is workable and sell it on if not. I just know that I don't have the stamina to be up and down putting baby back in a cot during the night I sleep so much better when I can feed baby lying down and frankly I'm a monster when sleep deprived.
