My dc3 is 5 days old and only falls asleep on a feed or a dummy, he is too small for being left to cry, but I dont want to get him into bad habits. I have the other children to look after.
Any advice?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Forget about habits, he's only 5 days old.

Just go with the flow, give him what he needs.

its not as easy as that to be constantly attached to him when i have a 3yr old and a 6 yr old to look after

Don't worry about habits, just go with the flow (as I have just realized emkana just said).

My dd was either cuddled to sleep or slept during a feed for weeks. I remember my MIL saying "if you don't put that baby down she will never learn how to go to sleep on her own. From 12 weeks she had a bedtime and went to sleep on her own so that was a load of old tosh!

He is too young to form habits and at the moment he needs comfort (imo) so I just wouldn't worry.

Oh I see, just read your last post. Have you got a sling? My dd was often in hers and left me free to do stuff.

beau82 · 15/07/2007 21:15

No, I had one with dc1 and never used it, so gave it away. perharps i should invest in one. dc2 was really a easy baby so could still do everything with dc1. i suppose its just a matter of getting used to his ways

give a sling another try. the slings these days are a lot better and different than they were even 3yrs ago

nailpolish · 15/07/2007 21:17

get a wraparound sling, did you have a strap one before, like a babybjorn?

beau82 · 15/07/2007 21:19

the thought of having that extra weight on me again makes me cringe- dc3 was 9lbs 1oz, but i wil def give it a try, household will go to pot.

It might be worth a go. DD was such a cuddly baby I found it helped loads. She just needed to be close to me and then she would settle. And honeslty, she didn't get into any bad habits. I had a Babybjorn one which I thought was fine but I know the wraparound ones are popular.

nailpolish · 15/07/2007 21:21

start a thread about wraparound slings i fyou want more info

loads of people on here use them

Piffle · 15/07/2007 21:23

I had the same issue
I got a Coorie sling it was a godosend as I could also feed in it if I needed

Truly lifesaving esp in the early days
