13 month old suddenly going ballistic in cot

DD has never been a good sleeper. She was rocked or fed to sleep until around five months when we very gently taught her to go to sleep on her own in her cot without crying (it was a bit like shh pat and gradual retreat) but I just sat next to her and then about a week ago she seemed ready to go to sleep by herself so I had started leaving the room and she would play with her toys and then curl up and go to sleep beautifully (though still woke a couple of times in night to feed)

Then last night she got woken up a couple of times by people knocking ( 😡 ) and since then she's become absolutely hysterical when I put her in her cot, both last night afterwards, for both naps today and this evening. It's like she associates the cot with not being able to sleep and she hurls herself around it screaming even with me sitting next to her.

I've just managed to sing her to sleep (she went down early because she was so overtired after problems earlier) and I've checked nothing is bothering her

Help! For medical reasons we actually need to predict her sleep patterns pretty accurately by next week and I feel like we've suddenly regressed - will it pass soon?

It reminds me a bit of when you try to put a clingy newborn in the basket after rocking to sleep! She was so tired she nodded off feeding tonight for the first time in a long time but as soon as she felt me go to move her she got really upset

Have you got a travel cot? I would try her in that, and if she's in her own room then put it in your room, or at least another room to try to break the assosciation. The knocking has likely frightened her, she may not feel safe in her cot.

I think you are right. It's horrid. Poor little thing

She was ok in the night last night but any sign of trouble tomorrow and I'll try travel cot, thank you
