11 week old- don’t know what to do 😩

My 11 week old has several issues so I’ll try explain as best I can.
Firstly she’s never fed well, she was born with an extreme tongue tie which didn’t get fixed due to wait list until she was 4 weeks so breastfeeding never worked out for us. She’s been bottle fed on cow and gate since 4 days old. We’ve tried several bottles and are now on mam. It takes her half an hour to get 2-3oz and she struggles with it. Often becoming fussy and crying, sometimes stiff if she’s overtired. She feeds at night no fussing but doesn’t have a lot.

She started to sleep between 5-6 hours at night in one go however after her 8 week jabs this stopped. She now wakes every 2 hours. I feel that she is very over tired due to bad napping in the day but I don’t know what to do.
I swaddle and cuddle her to sleep for naps but she then wakes within 10-30mins thrashing violently with her arms and legs and manically moving her head from side to side.
I’ve been to the doctors 3 times with fears of reflux and allergy. She shows vague signs of both and colic so they have diagnosed her with colic. I tried her on baby gaviscon for a day and it didn’t seem to make any difference just made her constipated.

I literally don’t mind cuddling her every time she naps, I’m not trying to get her away from me but regardless of where she is she just won’t nap properly which is leading to mega overtiredness. The only place she naps better (SOMETIMES) is in the pram on a walk but not every time.

Please any suggestions are welcome as I’m loosing my mind a little bit and I’m worried that the lack of sleep is going to affect her development.

Are you using slow teats with your bottles Angel?
Babies have to work harder at sucking when using a slow flow teat - you can get medium and fast flow so might be worth try a different tow rate so she gets her milk a little quicker and isn't worn out from lengthy feeding.

Hey op, congratulations on DD.

Her sleep behaviour sounds similar to my DD. After nine weeks I saw a cranial osteopath. It's not for everyone but in DD case she began to sleep after second session, which was 48 hours after first.

I had same issues, possible colic, possible silent reflux, thrashing, kicking. Also cow and gate albeit mix fed.

He was wonderful and for us, a total god send. Don't get me wrong, she's a baby, sometimes we have a bad night, sometimes she sleeps five hours. However the distress type sleep pattern has stopped.

Hi,
We tried medium flow and it seemed to choke her and she seemed more fussy after feeds with crying etc so I switched back. But this was when she was 2 months old so maybe I should try again

Hi, what does a cranial osteopath do sorry? Sorry for sounding stupid I’ve never heard that before

At this age, I would be putting her to sleep every hour and 15mins tops. They have short awake times at this age and can go from looking ok to a overtired screaming mess in minutes, then don't sleep properly.

BikeRunSki · 08/04/2019 19:49

I’d try the medium teats again.

Angel179 · 08/04/2019 19:55

I’m usually putting her down (or trying to) every 1.3-1.45 as that’s what the doctor said to donbut maybe it’s slightlt too long. She’s perfectly happy inbetwen and showing no sleep signs until she gets abit moany at which point I feed her and then try get her to sleep. She seems to drop off quite easily but within 10-15 mins she’s waking herself up with the violent thrashing like I said. Do you think she’s overtired? The symptoms for over and under tiredness are the same 😩

Any idea why these could of been making her fussier before? I’m so terrified to change anything incase it makes her worse 😩🙈

Sounds like it could be silent reflux. All three of my dds had this and it caused huge problems with feeding. If it is this laying down can make it worse as the liquid and acid flow up the oesophagus which causes irritation. Propping the head end of the cot slightly may help so it is a fraction higher.

You really need to give more than a day trial with gaviscon to see if it makes a difference. It can cause constipation though so be mindful of that. My dds responded initially but then we needed to try thickened/specialised formula and Zantac.

Angel179 · 08/04/2019 20:05

She doesn’t do this at night though. She wakes up quietly feeds then drops straight back off. I mean she’s waking every 2 hours but she’s not kicking off like she does in the day. That’s why I don’t think it’s reflux.

I would also try the medium teets again if I were you. It takes them a bit to get used to them when you change sometimes.
Where is she napping in the day? My dd is 12 weeks old and we’ve recently discovered she sleeps so much better during the day in the sleepyhead, worth a try if you can pick one up second hand maybe?
Also have you tried white noise once she’s dropped off? It may just help her go into a deeper sleep.
Sorry I don’t have any better suggestions x

Checks for any pain or stiffness. Ours is also a chiropractor. He though she had a sore area around pelvis.

Angel179 · 08/04/2019 21:20

That’s great thank you. She’s been sleeping on me and I’m thinking you might be right as she sleeps well in her cot at night. She does wake but she goes off straight away and stays asleep for 2 hours at a time

If she settles ok at night in her cot have you tried putting her in there for daytime naps?

Crabbitstick · 09/04/2019 22:40

Is she bringing up wind ok?
