3.5 month old keeps waking up chewing his hands?

Has anyone else experience this...
My little boy is 3 1/2 months old and has been sleeping really well until a few days ago. Now he keeps waking himself up and getting frustrated trying to chew his hands. (All night long!)

He sleeps with a dummy but just keeps knocking it out with his hands.
I don’t think he is teething but any tips on how to make him stop would be great.

I've got a chewer. Never found anything that stopped him. He grew out of the hand chewing at some point in the first six months.

There's a swaddle that keeps the hands raised but inside. We had it, it was great. Its called the Love To Dream. He still could suck his hands but he movement is limited.

There are also ones what are essentially compression sacks which keeps the hands further down but babies prefer to sleep with their arms raised.

He hates being swaddled so I don’t think that will work but will give it a try.
I don’t mind the hand chewing but he’s waking himself up doing it.

Thanks for the help x

From experience of my DS who used to do this, I would offer a feed. If he doesn't want it, he will refuse it but it's worth ruling it out Smile

I would query teething (it is possible at his age!), whether he's hungry and whether he has wind... Good luck!

Naomi I wondered (now we are a cpl of weeks on!) If this passed for you? My 13 week old has started doing the same... every.two.hours 😫 the last 4 nights have been a killer. I don't know if it's hunger/teething/ wind waking her up but she chews and chews and then starts crying if I can't shush her back to sleep quick enough. I offer feeds (EBF) but she is only properly feeds for one or two of the wakings, the rest she either comfort sucks for a few mins or just has a cuddle and drops off 🙄
Anyway I'm just hoping this will pass soon so wondering how you got on... I hope it wasn't too bad for you!

Hi Hannah,
Unfortunately he’s still doing it most nights.

I’m yet to figure it out :-/ let me know if anything works!

Teething or hungry possibly?

dontcallmelen · 18/04/2019 17:30

Teething or hungry usually.

Hannah511 · 18/04/2019 17:37

Ill keep offering feeds but she deffinately doesn't want them all the time. Didn't think teething would start this early but it could well be! They put us through our paces (I wouldn't care but all my NCT group don't seem to have it, as well as the mother in law announcing 'she should be sleeping through by now' - I could have wept!! Will see how we get on... but two weeks is tough well done you so far x

dontcallmelen · 18/04/2019 19:00

Hannah both mine started teething at about 3.5 months as did dgd she had four teeth at 7mths & take no notice of sleeping through nonsense, babies will sleep when they want take care of yourself.

moreismore · 18/04/2019 19:02

Could easily be hunger-massive brain growth spurt around this age. Also my DS had first teeth at 3.5 months...

moreismore · 18/04/2019 19:02

LOL at sleeping through. Liars Wink

EggplantVestibule · 18/04/2019 19:06

I'd say either teething (my eldest had his first tooth at three and a half months) or hungry. Is he going through a growth spurt?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/04/2019 19:47

Perfectly normal age to start teething, wasn't considered early when ds was little, have things changed ?

flapjackfairy · 18/04/2019 19:49

Happy hands ! My an child was destroying his hands but loves these and can chew to his hearts content
