How long to leave a fidgety dozing baby?

My DD is 8 weeks old, she's pretty good but I have no idea what I'm doing!

She feeds at about 8pm and we go to bed then she wakes again at about 12.30 and 4 am for feeds. After each feed she needs 30min of settling as she has reflux but the cuddles are nice ☺️

After the 4am feed though she won't go back to a peaceful sleep, she will be wriggling, kicking her legs, moving her arms and head, making effort 'eh' noises usually getting more intense after 6. This doesn't seem to escalate to crying, often I make preparations to pick her up and feed again but by the time I'm ready she's looking sound asleep, only for all the noise to start up again as soon as my head is on the pillow.

This morning I left her wriggling while I dozed with one eye open. At 7 I opened the curtains and she just smiled as she came round so she didn't seem distressed.

So, is it ok to leave her when she's like that or am I a terrible mother for neglecting my little bub?!

My son’s were both like this, I think some babies are just very noisy sleepers!

My LO had a stage of moaning to himself. For hours. Nothing wrong, just bloody annoying to listen to.

Thanks, I'll just leave her to it and try to sleep through it!

Totally normal and is fine to let them wriggle away. Enjoy your sleep!

Our 7 week old DD has been doing this for around 3 weeks now so I can totally relate, in fact all of what you've written in your OP rings true! We've learnt to just sleep through it and eventually she goes off, but there are no end of times I've put the night light on ready to pick her up then she just lays silent as though she hasn't made a peep, only to start again once I've settle back in bed! Little tinkers! As long as she's not distressed I'd just say see if you can ride through it. I've heard of people resorting to ear plugs so they can get some shut eye lol!

I've found my youngest (11 weeks) does this, usually as he is working some wind through. As soon as he wakes and stretches he has a good fart. I just leave him to it unless he starts to moan.

Samind · 03/04/2019 20:24

Is the eh noises not meant to mean wind? Especially with the hear turning! Congrats on your new baby btw 🥰

Njh1986 · 03/04/2019 23:58

Oh yes, the dreaded Early Morning Farts. Stopped at around 12 weeks for my girl (to be replaced two weeks later by the arguably worse Early Morning Poo and Sing Song).

I think my reluctance to get her up for the fart game is partly what taught her to wriggle herself back off to sleep. Bloody painful when you’re trying to sleep though 😩

Ahh! Just when you settle down to sleep (or drink coffee or have a meal or have a bath) they need attention.

DD is 9, this still happens 😂

Definitely leave her if she's not crying! Even if she is lay there awake it's good that she's happy to do so. Take all the sleep you can get 😂
