Crying when waking

My 10 week old cries really hard when she wakes up, it's like she's stuck in a bad dream and can't wake up. Is this normal?

Sounds normal to me. She might be wishing to sleep and doesn't know how to fall back asleep. (My 9mo still does it!)
Are her eyes still closed on waking?

Congratulations on your new baby😊

Yeah her eyes are still closed it's like she's having a bad dream or doesn't want to wake up bless her she cries so hard. Thanks for your reply

This really freaked me out when DD first done it. I think at 10 weeks your baby is too young for night terrors but I might be wrong.
I used to rock her and make shushing sounds.

Yeah I'm always there holding her and reassuring her it's just heartbreaking

Sometimes when DD wakes she is upset purely from waking and is frustrated that she's not falling back asleep. Eyes are closed and she flings her head back (as if to say "I want to lie down!"). And before I realised what the issue was (hindsight is marvellous) she was clearly upset that I kept trying to comfort her, rock her etc. In my case I learnt that interference was making her more upset. I can't quite remember when I actually clocked this... but I was certainly older than 10 weeks. But I just thought I'd give my experience in case it helps. Zq
