Going cold turkey with the dummy?

Does anybody have any success stories with just binning baby’s dummy? How long did it take? Did you replace it with anything?
My 5 month old dd is now very reliant on me replacing her dummy constantly through the night so something needs to change. Please any tips/advice, is there a gradual method etc...

Cold turkey is the quickest and most effective way.

Do check the Lullaby Trust guidelines because, unless they have changed, they recommend leaving a five month old who is used to having a dummy with it because it lowers the risk of SIDS.

Can she put it back into her own mouth? (Can't remember when they start doing that). If so you could put 20 of them in the cot with her. However I've always found as soon as you decide to take affirmative action with a child related problem they stop doing it and start doing something else.

No bomanaise she can constantly take it out though Angry
To be honest PolarBear she will probably be 6 months before I dare to bite the bullet Grin
A maternity nurse told me the sooner the better as the older they get the harder it is.

We got rid of the dummy at 6 months. It had served its purpose and was absolutely the right decision. It was only 2 days where DS seemed to miss it. All over very quickly and painlessly.

Oh that’s promising I could cope with 2 days.

Did you ‘replace’ the dummy with anything? White noise, comforter or anything?

We went cold turkey at 5 months, wasn’t half as bad as I thought it would be. We used white noise anyway. Had to rock until drowsy for the first few naps but then she was fine after that

We didn't replace with anything. Just a stern look at DH every time he wanted to crack. He's soft and used the dummy as a crutch!!
