First time mum need advice

Hiii, first post, my babyy is 8 months old and is really well behaved, love her to pieces. Her first tooth has already come through and we didn't even realise till it was there! But with her second which is coming through already she's having a bit of a problem which is expected( thank god for bonjela) she's drinking a bit less and biting everything she can lol, I'm also having few issues with her eating baby food? Is this down to her teething maybe? Not wanting food and as much milk? Only with a few bottles she will leave 4/7oz and food Even though she loves porridge so much, no issues with that it's everything else, I give her Ella's kitchen as cow and gate she doesn't tend to like any of it, but I can't keep her on porridge forever, also can I hear some people's routines? From when they wake up to when they have little ones too sleep? When is breakfast , lunch, snacks? What do you feed and what times? When do they nap and go to sleep? Thanks x (first time mum so just looking for advice here and there other than that love being a mum!!) thanks for any advice

It's a long, long time since mine were babies, and I don't want to confuse you with old / out dated advice, so just bumping for you, to life you off 'unanswered threads' Smile

Go by your instincts. There isn't a baby manual and you know your little girl best! She will help you with what she wants. Life is too precious to worry too much about if you are doing the right thing all the time. Gradually you will develop a routine together that's right for both of you x

TeethingBabyHelp · 13/03/2019 00:40

Hi Op. My DS is 10 months now but routine been same since about 7 months when he dropped his 3rd nap

0700: wakes and offered bottle (usually will do about 4oz)
0830: breakfast - always porridge he loves it
1030: bottle 6oz
1030 - 1200: nap
1230: lunch. Usually leftovers from dinner or an Ella's kitchen meal if we're out. If not, something easy like philly on toast with some fruit and yoghurt or an omelette
1530 - 1630: bottle (7oz) and then nap
1730: dinner. Whatever we're having really, slow cooker chicken so it's nice and soft, stew, korma, baked potatoes
1930: bath, bottle and bed

Teething can impact their behaviour an awful lot. DS has 6 teeth and at one point had a 3 day stretch of refusing bottles as it was too sore for him to suck.

In regards to sleeping, DS won't sleep anywhere except his cot I'm afraid so I do have to be very rigid with my routine. I wish he'd go off in his pram if i was out and about but he just skips his nap completely if I'm out at nap time and it makes him difficult for hours so I'm having to be a bit of a slave to nap time currently! However, it does mean he knows his routine down to a T and goes off like a dream so I guess it has some benefits!

I'd also recommend the baby led weaning cookbook app for meal ideas. I was using Ella's kitchen for every meal supplemented with finger food but he was ignoring the finger food so I thought I need to cut pouches. The meals are suitable for adults and tasty - he's not refused anything I've made using those recipes and some of the bits I was dubious about and kept a pouch in standby but he proved me wrong!

God this is long and a little dull, apologies! I hope some of it helpful. But I do know several babies of same age who all have completely different routines so I think once you find the little groove of what works for you as a family, don't worry too much about what everyone else doing!

Mine is 9mo and doesn’t really have a routine so I can’t help there, but it is quite common to go off milk and food while teething. Obviously if you think they are losing weight or they aren’t producing wet nappies you should follow up :)

Limpshade · 13/03/2019 01:48

Mine's 9mo (second child) and we're struggling with teeth at the moment too. She seems to be suffering a lot worse than her sister did so it's surprised me a bit! Here's our routine:

7am Wake and bottle (this one she's refusing sometimes at the moment but it can be anything between 70-180ml depending on her mood!)
8am Breakfast (Mashed weetabix with formula milk or baby porridge with fruit purée)
9am Bottle (see 7am)
9.15 Sleep
10-10.30am Wake (here's where it gets sticky as her snack and lunch depend on when she wakes up, so say she woke up at 10.30, then...)
10.45am Snack
11.30am Lunch (Omelette and veg; mashed up risotto, mashed up pork and bean casserole, mashed up chicken, carrots and potato bake, etc etc - these are all recipes I got from the Ella's Kitchen cookbook)
12.30pm Bottle (210ml)
1pm Sleep
2.30-3pm wake
3-3.30pm (depending on wake time) Snack
5.15pm Dinner (see lunch - whatever she hasn't had then. I batch cook a load of these recipes then freeze them in cubes so it's easy. But she's starting to want more of what her sister's eating so we are doing a mixed bag at the moment. She will always have some finger food as well as mashed-up whatnots, even if it's just a hunk of bread).
6pm Bath
6.45pm Bottle (2.10ml) and story time
7pm Bed

TTQuestion · 13/03/2019 02:50

8 months here

5am up, 3-4oz
7am -8am Nap 1 with 3-4oz
8.30am breakfast
11am - 1pm Nap 2 with 3-4 oz
3pm - 3-4oz
4.30 - Tea
5pm Bath
5.30-6.30pm Bed 4-5oz
Drinks maybe 7-10oz overnight basically in her sleep

Today between 10am and 4pm she only had 4oz total as her teeth are bothering her so she just chewed on the teat of the bottle

My baby eats very little in way of solids although as you can see I offer it twice a day. She has brócoli, carrots, avocado, toast, chicken, steak, strawberries, cucumber - she just sucks on all of the above.

Food before one is just for fun!

@binkyblinky that's right I suppose! I'm new to all this so not sure of it is right to not have a routine fully established yet!x

@TeethingBabyHelp thank you for this! It really helps as I can see how other mums do it and it gives me ideas that I can try. And yeah my baby isn't to happy with her teething atm she's moody and doesn't drink her full bottle anymore. X

@Limpshade thank you too for this! Dd goes to bed at about 11!! So I find it hard to get up in the mornings as when she's asleep I start getting everything done that I didn't in the day and I'm so tired the next day I can't bring myself to wake her up I let her do it on her own I think that's where I might be going wrong x

@TTQuestion yep baby isn't drinking as much either but she isn't crying etc so I'd rather that lol and is it?? I got told babys must have foods after 6 months to establish the diet I was worried she wasn't taking to the solids thinking it's gonna be really bad for her , I'm so glad u said this x

@YummyMummy1999xox I've got the app on my phone rather than the book, much easier when out and about to be able to quickly have a look and see what ingredients I need.
It's called the Baby Led Weaning Cookbook app and you'll find on App Store. There's also an Instagram account and she puts ideas in there that look good too!

Ginnymweasley · 13/03/2019 14:10

My ds is 8 months. He doesn't have a set routine but it goes something like this.
6:30/7am- wakes up and has breastfeed
8am- breakfast (weetabix/porridge/fruit yogurt
10am - nap
11am- breastfeed
12:30pm- dinner of finger foods
2pm- breastfeed
3pm-nap
5pm-tea of mashed up food and a breastfeed
8pm- breastfeed and bed
He doesn't sleep well so will probably feed 2+ times overnight
All babies are different though so try and follow your babies needs.
