My DS is usually very good at going to sleep when given the opportunity, however this evening he has been awake for over 6 hours and will not sleep. We tried everything and the most we've succeeded is a 20 minute nap from him. We've tried feeding him, cuddling him him, burping him, singing to him, all in a darkened room, in desperation we've even tried taking him for a walk all wrapped up in the pram which still didn't put him to sleep.
We're at a loss, can anyone help,he's clearly really tired but just won't sleep.

Have you tried a swing, I had a electric one which Swang itself, isn't ideal for long sleeps but ok for a nap if you are watching over your baby.

Have you tried swaddling your baby. This also worked for us

Don't have suggestions but in the same boat with a 9 week old. We're all so tired and he hates swaddling and just won't sleep. Sad

Happygilmore2, it wasn't on the list, but yes I have tried this as well. I'm at a complete loss, none of the tricks are working at all :(

Oh dear, well hopefully it will get better. We had a perfect sleeper for 6 months then had the same issue as you. Sometimes it is just as simple as time. As long as the baby understands that the bed is a safe place it sure it will get better.

Does he cry if you put him down? Have you tried white noise? I used sit close to the cot in darkish room with white noise playing. I remember the feeling of desperation so well.

What about the old classic? Take him for a drive in the car?

Cakeandslippers · 09/03/2019 00:46

Did you get him off to sleep in the end? I've got a nearly 9 week old who does this all the time! She's sometimes awake from 7am until 7pm with no naps (or perhaps a couple of 10 minute snoozes) and she gets awful bags under her eyes and gets so grumpy because she's so tired. We've tried lots but it's hit and miss on what works...I think they are so interested in the world at this age they just don't want to miss anything. Sorry not a very helpful post, just wanted to say you are not alone. Hope he's happier and more rested today!

Thanks for the replies, it's reassuring to know that I am not alone in this.

TitchyP, he was indeed crying when he was put down and white noise pacified him, but only enough for him to calm down and stop crying, not to get to sleep :(

OccasionallyIncomplet, unfortunately that was something I wasn't able to try as our car is currently out of commission, but I will definitely keep that in mind and give it a go if there are any future issues.

He has finally gotten to sleep, after yet another very short nap, I treated it as a reset and went through his awake routine that would normally lead to sleep (play, eat, cuddle then sleep) and he finally settled down.

Thank you again for all your replies and I hope this post helps others in the same boat :)
