Putting baby in cot for naps/rocking to sleep

Hi all. My DS has got into habit of napping on us (our fault of course) and i would like to put him in his cot for naps but he wakes up crying every time i put him down. Any tips? He sleeps through the night usually but its the naps that are causing a problem. Also any tips to stop rocking to sleep are appreciated. Thanks 😊

This is not a bad habit just one you wish he was not in. Can you rock him in his pram/pushchair and leave it in the hallway or wrapped up warm outside if he is over 6 months and you can see into a secure garden. Or lay in the bed with him until he is asleep and then go.

How old is your DS? DD is 7.5 mo and still needs rocking to sleep for about 90% of naps. It is getting a bit annoying now she is 8kg but I don't want to unnecessarily make our lives even harder or distress her (she's a very 'high needs' baby and very difficult to get to nap and usually only has short naps...). As Jack said, I use the puschair for most of her naps, either while we are out walking to/from the shops/library/park/DPs house/playgroups etc or I just push her in it in the hallway. Bouncy chair used to work well too until she hit about 5 months then she became too engrossed in the telly programmes and won't sleep in it anymore.

The only hint I have is are you using sleeping bags? Because on a night DD falls asleep on us and then we put her into her cotbed and she never wakes up when we put her down in it, she did go through a phase around 4 months old where she started waking and we switched from blankets to sleeping bags and she stopped. I think she kept the warmth in a sleeping bag whereas the temperature change from being warm on us to a cold bed was disturbing her.
