Sleepyhead in Snuzpod Vs Chico next to me Vs other

Due to have my first DD at the beginning of April and am currently planning sleeping arrangements and looking for some advice.

We're looking to have some sort of bedside crib/co-sleeper. I'm wanting it to fit a sleepyhead deluxe which we've been gifted by family comfortably without it being squashed/too snug a fit.
Was initially thinking of just moving cot bed into bedroom but doesn't fit unfortunately (rental accommodation and so only so much can do about moving about/removing furniture). 😕

Been looking mostly at snuzpod and Chico next to me & leaning more towards snuzpod as I like that it rocks and has a removable bassinet but have read that it's a bit more of a snug fit with the sleepyhead. Just wondering if anyone's got any personal experience of these two together - how snug is snug- is it squashed at all and will it fit with all sides up? Also if anyone's got any general recommendations for either of these or other bedside cribs used with sleepyhead?

I had a bednest. Hired. (Look into it, bargain!)
no regrets.

Next to me are also fab!

Avoid sleep positioners like snuzpod or sleepyhead as they are cited as a SIDS risk.

looktothewesternsky · 02/02/2019 22:42

I have a next to me; sleep positioners / sleepy heads shouldn't be used in there during the night at all.

Ploppymoodypants · 02/02/2019 22:45

I might be wrong but I thought that SIDS guidelines/advice from Lullaby Trust said that sleepyhead and similar products are not recommended and at best only uses for supervised daytime naps and not at night. Sleeping place needs to be flat and firm and bare.

I have a Chico next to you crib which is brilliant. DD sleeps flat on the mattress and sheets. Rest of crib is bare. It’s really great, can lie right up close with no risk of squashing her. Can breastfeed lying down and just gently slide her back into crib. Would definitely recommend.

Bednest hire no longer available however they usually have refurbished ones (with brand new mattress, sheets and sides) for c. £100 on the website.

Next to Me is a bigger crib so babies can often stay in it a bit longer, and it also folds down really nicely for travel. However it is expensive and the pale grey ones (exclusive to Mothercare I think) look shabby quickly. I think the darker colours would be ok.

We have a next to me and a sleepy head, she didn’t sleep overnight in the sleephead until around 3 months. Fits perfectly in the cot but be aware at six months we are now struggling to get her to sleep in just the cot and not the sleephead, it’s a great prop for a few months but when they grow out of it you need to be prepared 😂

Thanks. That's good to know! Thinking will just use for daytime naps at first see how she is in it and try her just in bedside crib at night & see how we get on but nice to know it will fit in bedside crib nicely if we want to use it in there. Am leaning now a bit more to next to me I think as like the fact it looks a bit wider and just seems there's a new version with a rocker now.

When DD was v tiny I could tell she felt a bit exposed and not at all snug and secure in the Chico. She didn’t exactly cry but flapped about a bit. So I had a phil and teds cocoon for the pushchair (which is flat and firm) but smaller and put that in the Chicco at night. I lowered the Chicco so could still see her and reach out to her. Then when she got bigger she filled the Chico and was happy in there alone.

We have the Tutti Bambini Cozee, also worth considering! Same price and does the same thing as the Chicco and Snuzpod, I just liked the look of it more, and I can confirm the sleepyhead fits inside it nicely

bassackwards · 04/02/2019 04:30

I had the snuzpod, which I bought mainly because I thought it was the best looking one tbh. It was fine, but I had a few issues: it wasn't tall enough to line up with our mattress even at the tallest setting, it's very difficult to rock especially on a carpeted floor, it doesn't travel or store well (heavy and non collapsing). All of that said, my large baby stayed in it for six months and seemed happy enough Smile We never used a sleepyhead

babysleep4 · 04/02/2019 05:06

I've got the Chicco next to me with the Sleepy head in it. fits perfectly. I didn't plan on using the Sleepy head at night but did after about two weeks as she sleeps much better in there.Still using both at 5 months.

TheOrangeOwl · 04/02/2019 07:09

We have the snuzpod 3, and like you were considering a sleepyhead to go in it. Then I heard about the SIDS risks so didn't get a sleepyhead.

But we absolutely love the Snuzpod. It has mesh both sides, is pretty big and the reflux tilt has saved us. It connects to our low bed fine, and the top coming off is handy too. I'd really recommend it. Smile

The bablylo cozi sleeper is almost identical to the chicco next to me but far cheaper. You can get them in smyths. My son fitted in it until he was almost 8 months and he was a long baby!

I am considering getting a sleepyhead for our next baby to put in the cozi sleeper but scared of SIDS risk although most people swear by them.

Paradyning · 04/02/2019 20:55

Gutted bednest have stopped rentals. They were great if used safely.

I can't see any mention of SIDS risknfor sleepyhead only that sleep postiiners may negate heat loss thus increasing any risk.

However, when I researched this for last baby it never sleepyhead specifically claimed that they were fully breathable and helped with what loss. Can not find that now in their website though.

Would be interested if anyone has anything specific.

Sorry to derail slightly. But we're also considering the Snuzpod. Just have to check the mattress height.

greenelephantscarf · 04/02/2019 21:00

sleepyhead specifically claimed that they were fully breathable

they are if used correctly, i.e. on a hard and even surface away from soft furnishings or furniture.

plus babies should be supervised.

so not suitable to use on the bed next to you at night.

Paradyning · 04/02/2019 21:04

Thanks and apologies for typos.
I can't see the difference though if they are positioned jn a snuzpod with fully breathable sides.

hamandpease · 04/02/2019 21:28

@SpaceDinosaur a snuzpod is not a sleep positioner, it's a next to me type crib Smile

greenelephantscarf · 04/02/2019 21:55

the sleepyhead's sides are only fully breathable if not sunk in on a soft surface (matress) or up against furniture or pillows.

Paradyning · 04/02/2019 22:23

Thanks Elephant

Paradyning · 06/02/2019 22:26
