Has Cranial Osteopathy helped anyone's toddler sleep problems

My dd has never been a great sleeper and whilst I am willing to believe she may have a milk/sleep association (which I am working on) I also think she might get very uncomfortable at night. She is extremely restless, cries out a lot in her sleep and never sleeps for more than 3 hours without waking. Sometimes she wakes sounding very distressed. Naps are fine.

She was back to back labour (long), fast 2nd stage (17 minutes) and from stuff I have been reading, all of this can have an effect.

I was wondering whether anyone had tried it for sleep problems and if they'd had any success.

DS was also back to back, very long labour etc and then he suddenly shot out.
He was restless and unhappy and so we tried cranial. I think we had 2 or 3 sessions. After the first there was an immediate difference (ie, he slept for ages) but it didn't last but after the second session, well.... it was as if I'd been given a different child. Go for it.

Worked for us. Ds screamed and cried all day long. Once I think he only slept for about 2 hours in a 24 hour stretch. At 10 weeks, we took him for cranial osteopathy. We had about 3 or 4 sessions (about £25 each) and by the second or third he was a much happier baby already and was sleeping really well.

it helped my dd nap for more than 3o mins when she was tiny.

yes yes yes, I have just finished 3 treatments on dd3 who is nearly 4. It's like having a different child. We had lots of problems with her from 6 weeks sleep & screaming wise. Then things improved so that half the time she would sleep through although it always took her a long time to get to sleep and would often wake early - she also would wake up screaming hysterically sometimes! In 7 weeks she has got 3 times between 10pm & 7 am - one for a poo (toilet trip before 10pm not uncommon) the other two times were bad dreams. Before that it could be up 3 nights on the trot several times each night etc.

This all sounds really encouraging, thanks a lot. Anyone know a good one in south oxfordshire? Or is there a professional organisation who can put me in touch with an accredited one? I want an appointment now!

Would you travel to Windsor?

The Sutherland Society - you can search for practitioners who have experience with children.

GColdtimer · 30/06/2007 16:11

I have got a friend there so if we could work out a good time, then yes.

Sorry - I'm wrong - you can search by area, but it doesn't show up their experiences.

Gareth Butler 01753 850322

He was recommended to me by my osteopath as a cranial osteopath. He is absolutely lovely and treats lots of children and has been practising for many years he is fab! You may have to wait a few weeks for a new patient appointment though (sign of a good one me thinks) as they are an hour long rather than the usually 30 mins. £30 for initial appt, £25 thereafter

GColdtimer · 30/06/2007 16:14

Thanks, I just checked and found the Family osteopath clinic, just phoned and her answer phone message said that she is a pediatric osteopath so it looks like I may have got lucky there! Thanks a lot.

And thanks Cargirl, I will give him a call too. , as you say having to wait a few weeks is usually a good sign.

Keep your fingers crossed for me. So desperately in need of a good nights sleep (and my birthday today so perhaps this could be a good birthday present!)

check thought twofalls because a paediatric osteopath might well not be a cranial osteopath.

Cargirl - your guy is very reasonable huh? I pay £40 for half an hour whether for me or the children.

CarGirl · 30/06/2007 18:51

yes he is, his adult rates are higher £50 initial and £40 subsequent!!!!! He's also recommmended I take dd to see someone else (not osteopath) someone who specialises in developmental stuff as there is evidence that she hasn't lost her morro reflex, and you know thinking about it she gets hysterical if she gets a fright/is startled etc I'll report back on what he says after I've been........

I wish I lived closer to Windsor
