Do ALL babies go through a 4 month sleep regression?

DS is 12 weeks and has gone from sleeping erratically to two nights of sleeping 12 hours in the space of a week, it's bliss! When I've mentioned it to friends, they have ALL said 'just you wait until the sleep regression at 4 months!'

Is this a guarantee (or as good as?)

No. I don't remember my eldest doing it at all. He would sleep well for a few weeks, then wake for a few, then sleep for a few. The only pattern was teething. Otherwise absolutely no predictability to it.

My child was gifted and talented and went through it early. Proud Mum😟

It’s not really a regression it’s actually their sleep cycles changing so eventually it becomes the same as an adults.

Teaonthebedsheets · 16/01/2019 07:33

We never had it

SoyDora · 16/01/2019 07:36

No not all. Mine did, although earlier than 4 months. It’s a developmentak thing, a lot of babies start waking after sleep cycles at that age. A lot don’t.
The thing with sleep though is it generally changes all the time. Yes some babies will start sleeping through and will do it from then on, but a lot will change depending on developmental stages etc. Teething/illness can knock it out of kilter for months.
So my advice is to enjoy it while it lasts!

Keeping my fingers firmly crossed!

None of my three did. One was a dreadful sleeper all the time, two slept amazingly well.

Dimsumlosesum · 16/01/2019 13:15

I've never had a friend or relative whose kid didn't go through it (my own three all did to varying degrees), but obviously there'll always be some who are mega lucky.

INeedNewShoes · 16/01/2019 13:19

No. The idea that all babies are following some sort of schedule is absolute bollocks in my humble opinion.

It's also unhelpful for parents to fear/expect these labelled regressions.

So keep enjoying the sleep and just take things as they come Smile

Onglue · 16/01/2019 13:21

No neither of mine did.

IWannaBeYourFordCortina · 16/01/2019 13:26

DS didn’t go through it but DD has made up for it. Slept through from coming home from hospital for the first 4 months then is still up every night now at 2.5 Envy

witherwings · 16/01/2019 13:38

Neither of mine did. First slept 11-7 at 8 weeks and was consistently sleeping 7-7 at 3 months. Hasn't changed in 10 years (apart from the odd illness).
Second didn't sleep at night at all for first couple of weeks but once she did start sleeping, she slept well since.

Mads123 · 16/01/2019 13:39

I was going to ask the same thing. DS is 12 weeks also but doesn't sleep through, He'll wake 3-4 times during the night so was worried it would get worse. Glad they don't all go through it.

TwittleBee · 16/01/2019 13:45

Nope, DS didnt have a 4 month sleep regression, its actually when he started sleeping through... We then had a shock when the 6 month sleep regression hit!

datingloon · 16/01/2019 13:54

Nope 4 children and never had it with any, 1st I heard of it was about 2 years ago on Mumsnet
