What do you do with her when she wakes up? Do you let her get up/watch TV or do you keep putting her back in bed?

metronome1 · 14/01/2019 12:43

Cut out the tv before bed. Make sure you have a good routine that includes at least half an hour of low light relaxing time before bed. I know this is usually for getting them to go to sleep but it helps them switch off and remain asleep.
When she wakes don't turn in the lights or tv etc and keep lying her down.

Lilworthy92 · 14/01/2019 16:38

If she comes to the door then I keep putting her back to bed normally she just watches tv and plays

So she’s switching the TV on in her room herself? If so I suggest taking the TV out of her room for a start.

SPR1107 · 14/01/2019 16:45

I would take the tv out of her room, and cut the bottles. Give her weetabix and a cup of warm milk before bed, followed by a warm bath and a story.

No screentime for at least an hour before bed.

No fruit, no sugar after late afternoon.

To break the habit, try and wake her up by lunch time every day, and just keep her awake until she flips the habit. I would take her for some fresh air in the afternoon too.

Lilworthy92 · 14/01/2019 16:55

I was playing on taking the tv out anyway as I want to try anything for her to just sleep through the night again I’m drained i didn’t have any sleep at all last night was up TIL 8am

Can you get someone to give you a break, any family nearby? If not take a day off work and try and have a nap in the morning with her. Then keep her awake from 11am til bedtime. When she wakes up keep putting her back in bed with no eye contact or interaction except a quiet 'its sleepy time'.
Also take the tv away and cut out the screens completely after lunch.
This is short term pain for long term gain.
(easier said than done however, because my 2.8yo is still up at least once in the night Blush).

TV out

very low lights

Keep her busy all day. Don't let her have more than half an hour nap

She's going to be horrible for a few days while she readjusts, ride it out.

mistermagpie · 14/01/2019 17:32

Is she just 2 or 2-nearly three?

If the latter cut all naps out. Get the tv out of her room today, I don't even have a tv in my bedroom and I'm 38, no toddler needs one. She might be a monster for a few days if you won't let her nap but hopefully she will stop being so nocturnal?

seven201 · 14/01/2019 21:29

A tv in a toddler's room is a recipe for disaster. She will be very grumpy about it but will eventually get over it. My dd is 2.5 and would be up all night watching it if it was there.

Can you drop naps? My dd is 2.5 and recently dropped daytime naps. Or don't let her nap for more than an hour - we did that from about 1 1/2 ish as she was a nightmare at night if she napped too long.

Jackshouse · 14/01/2019 21:33

Take TV and toys out of her room.

Like a previous poster suggested don’t let her sleep past 11.

When she wakes durring the night tell her it’s bed time and late her to bed. I’m personally a fan of cosleeping but not everyone is.

Also try a glo clock.

Noonefightslikegaston · 14/01/2019 22:08

I honestly think your solution is really very straight forward. You have to keep her awake as much of the day as possible. Her routine is now all out and it feels like you are letting it? I honestly don’t mean that in a horrible way, but if you’re letting her sleep all day then it will affect her at night. Same if you are letting her play and watch tv when she should be sleeping. It’s now her routine. You have my sympathy, my daughter manages to slowly change her routine and then it is a complete pig to get back.

I reckon if you limit her to 30min nap when she is desperate then you should be able to change it quite easily Flowers

Just turning 2

Thanks ladies had abit better sleep last night I’ve took your advice she didn’t have a tv last night at all she’s got her nightlight she did wake up at 1am but she went straight back to bed and woke up again at 3am had about an hr or two of putting her back to bed she did go back to sleep after trashing the room as she wasn’t getting her own way and she was up at 10am and still awake now playing

OP posts:
crazycatlady5 · 15/01/2019 14:53

If you’re waking her at 11am it sounds like you need to just keep bringing everything back slightly by 30 mins a day, so wake her at 10.30, make nap 30 mins earlier, bedtime 30 mins earlier etc.

Noonefightslikegaston · 15/01/2019 19:34

That sounds a massive improvement! Just keep chipping away and stick with it! It takes me about 2weeks to change my daughter’s routine so give it a while.

Lilworthy92 · 15/01/2019 23:18

Massive improvement she’s in bed no tv fast asleep I’ll see how tonight goes I put her in bed tonight and she went straight to sleep

Today don’t let her nap.... bed at 7pm... then see if that helps. She will be shattered!!

BeOurGuest · 16/01/2019 07:09

Why haven’t you slept? She woke up once in the night? Am I reading that wrong?

SoyDora · 16/01/2019 07:18

Sounds like a good night, why didn’t you sleep?

Quartz2208 · 16/01/2019 07:23

Yes you need to sort out routine and no tv
Why didn’t you sleep
How much does she nap

Lilworthy92 · 16/01/2019 08:14
