Any suggestions? He still wakes 30min after being held to sleep then wakes periodically through the night...

It will make a difference to the night waking if he settles himself to sleep at bedtime in the first place. I think you may well end up doing some form of sleep training (there are gentle no cry versions).

At 15m DD was content to be left if I left her with a book 'to read'. I've since been told by lots of people that this is unusual, but it could be worth a try? I think it gives them a distraction from being left and then they relax enough to drop off.

Presumably you've already tried music?

He has an owl that plays music (for 15min) he likes it. But if we pop him down and leave him he instantly stands up and cries until he works himself into a state. He will also throw everything out of his cot. Admittedly i have never left him for any length of time. Hes only just got over his silent reflux and we were always advised against sleep training in case he cried so much he could vomit and choke.

He has better days but never a night he doesnt wake within 30min of going down

I used to sit in DS bedroom and lightly touched his hands through the cot (bed) bars. later on I just sat in the room beside his bed. Till he was asleep. He eventually learned to self settle by putting his hand on a small cuddly toy - (with some help from mum!).

I have to say he was about 13 mounts old when I had enough of night screaming waking and just needed to teach him to self settle.

It’s not something you can track unfortunely. He will get there in the end x
