Your magic tips for daytime naps - pretty please!

Hello!

My ten week old sleeps well at night (goes down easily, sleeps for long stretches between feeds and re-settles quick as you like).
However in the day, even with signs of tiredness, he REFUSES to nap. I put him in the same swaddle blanket, in the same room, blinds drawn, consistent timings, white noise a go-go. I've tried the dummy (he doesn't mind it but it doesn't do much and he spits it out), stroking his face, etc. He cries and flaps about. If he gets off for 5 mins, he wakes up again hissing, spluttering and struggling, and starts to cry again. He doesn't even care for poor old Ewan the dream sheep.

He will sleep in the car or pram often, but I can't rely on that all the time.
I could wear him in the carrier around the house, but again that's not really a solution given it kills my back in about 20 mins.

Has anyone got any other techniques up their sleeve? Thank you!

Can you cuddle/bounce/rock/feed to sleep for naps? 10 weeks is so tiny, he will still need some help from you for a while yet. At bedtime they find it easier to fall asleep due to the sleep deficit built up over the day, and melatonin levels naturally increasing near bedtime. My 7 month old still has naps in the pram or car seat so don't worry about using them if you have to. At that age, any nap is a good nap in my opinion, regardless of how you achieve it :)

I drove myself mad trying to get my first to sleep in the Moses basket then cot during the day. Even once I did get him to sleep it was for 30 min bursts.

With my second I accepted defeat and let him sleep on me during the day for the first 3-4 months. After a while I'd be able to roll him into the sofa next to me. He's an amazing sleeper, and apart from a brief stretch at 10 months when he Co slept, he's always been in his own cot at night.

What sort of carrier do you have? I think you need a better one, unless you have a particularly bad back.

Just let him sleep on you and don't be so structured on nap times. I did this mistake with ds1 and then just went with the flow 2nd time round with ds2. If he is that tired, he will sleep. No big deal. Let him sleep on you a bit. At 1yo now my ds2 sleeps 7-7am. A much better sleeper than ds1 because i didnt sleep train until 10m. He fell asleep on me most of the time.

As above, neither of mine napped in their cot during the day until at least 6 months.
I used to use a sling or the pram (neither of mine liked the bassinet so I used the car seat which I know isn't great). Winter is tough though - I would rock the pram in the hall at home so if they did drop off at least I could have a bit of a rest.
What sling are you using? It shouldn't hurt your back - unless you have other issues.
