Will she ever sleep unswaddled??

My DD is 19 weeks old and I am desperately trying to get her to sleep unswaddled. We’ve tried one arm out, both arms out, falling asleep in my arms then putting her down, soothing her in the cot, having a muslin to hold onto. Nothing works but she has outgrown her swaddle blanket and I would like to tackle the issue sooner rather than later. One of the problems is she knocks her dummy out and cries for it but I couldn’t image trying to unswaddled and get rid of dummy at the same time.
Any advice would be great!

I'm afraid I don't know anything about swaddling but many moons ago my son slept in a Grobag. Obviously not the same, but I'm sure baby gets used to being covered at night in a similar way. It may take time to get used to something like that, but the feeling of being covered by something may help, rather than sheets and blankets.

If swaddling is working for you and your baby, I wouldn’t worry too much about stopping. If you do want to stop, you could try gradually loosening the swaddling over a few days, so the baby gets used to being without it.

I am having same issue with 16 week old. We have love to dream swaddles that keep arms up. We bought the one u can unzip arms so had one arm free for a few days now both arms. I dunno whether to zip them both in again. He suffers a bit from reflux so dunno what it is that disturbs he also hes nearly rolling so was told to try and unswaddle. Have u tried a sleeoyhead? I have one but dunno whether to try that so he feels hugged. Its so frustrating x

Don’t worry- my son was swaddled up until he was about 6-7 months old. Once he was too big for his swaddle cloth we bought a woombie convertible so that we could gradually put his arms out.
At the time I thought he was never going to settle without his swaddle but they do!
I also read that some babies were 9-10 months old before they outgrew their swaddle and they were fine too.
If your baby is happier in their swaddle it’s no harm. They will eventually grow out of the need for it.
For what it’s worth we had a sleepyhead deluxe and now he is 10 months old he has a sleepy head grand and he is such a good sleeper. Has been from about 16 weeks old.

I would try one of the baby sleeping bags that allow them to have their hands up but they are still inside the sleeping bag www.sleepsolutions.com.au/babies/baby-swaddles-and-sleeping-bags like these and then graduate to normal baby sleeping bags.

Why don't you get a bigger swaddle?
Swaddleme have swaddles up to 6 months and then alternatives. I'll take a picture of the packet when dd has finished feeding.

Love to Dream Swaddle Up is an arms up swaddle that might work for you. Our baby is 7 months and still swaddled and a good sleeper so we are not changing it.
