Trying to drop night feed?

DD is 7 months. She'll drink 6oz of milk (formula) at bedtime (7-7.30pm) and go to sleep, usually drinks all of it but sometimes will leave a little bit.

She then wakes up for a feed (6oz again) somewhere between 2-4, then up for the day 6-6.30.

Now, I don't overly mind the night feed, but I've had a few people comment on getting her to drop it. Someone said about not feeding and just 'shushing' her to sleep (I don't think this would work, she pretty much always feeds to sleep). Two other people have said to give her water instead of milk so it's 'not worth her waking up to feed'.

Should I be doing one of these things to try and get her to drop the night feed? Should her sleep ideally be uninterrupted overnight? 🤷‍♀️ I'm of the opinion that she obviously needs the milk or wouldn't wake for it but people have me second guessing over whether it's just a habit now.

In my limited experience, they drop the night feed when they're ready. If she's barely taking any then it might be the time to try shushing and water/cuddles but if she's still having it all then it doesn't sound like she's ready to me?

I phased it out by progressively offering less milk in the bottle e.g. offer 5 oz for a few nights, offer 4oz for a few nights, etc

I don't think that there is any harm in trying to shush back to sleep or give water or a dummy and see if she gets back to sleep so you can give it a try and give her milk if it's not working.
Tbh though in my experience they drop the night feed by themselves.

We fed at 7pm and then woke up to feed at 10/11pm so both mine dropped the night feed first and then dropped the 10/11pm feed. So I suppose you could try lightly waking her at 10pm for a bottle then she might go through the night.

I wouldn't drop the feed she will stop when she's ready.

My the 7 month old would feed to sleep
And wake once for a bottle

I stopped feeding to sleep and that night on he never woke for a bottle - might be worth a try for u!
I did bottle and then a book (used to do other way around) but him in bed awake he wasn’t very happy for about 3 mins and then slept all night...and hasn’t had a bottle
Since (now 13 Months)
