Hi mums, my 7 month old is no longer able to fall asleep in the pram; when the nap time comes he just gets very cranky from tiredness but would scream in the pram and won’t fall asleep. Only way is to run home, feed and rock and in the cot; or drive in the car, feeding. Usually falls asleep on the breast. So I can’t go out much any more. Hates dummy. Any tips?

White noise in the pram? Hot water bottle?

Try a soft toy in the pram or singing a favourite song loudly until he calms down in the pram, then take the toy away and/ or sing more gently whilst pushing the pram over a bumpy surface (like pavement not shop floor). Also ours tends to have a loud cry for a minute just before he falls asleep so don't get him out at the first yell! Good luck

My boy stopped being able to fall asleep in his pram a few months ago when he was about 6 months old.
Nobody I’d spoke to had the same problem, just the opposite (only sleeps in pram but not cot!) so I’m glad I’m not the only one!
I could be out walking for hours but he just wants to look around, then when he gets tired,he won’t fall asleep,he’ll just cry till I leg it and get him home to his cot. It was making things really tricky trying to be out and back in that little window of time.
So I came up with a plan to make it as similar as I could to his cot,
I carry around his spare comforter in the basket underneath the pram and a big muslin that I drape over the pram hood to make it a bit darker and he always listens to a lullaby when he’s going to sleep at home so I play that on my phone and pop the phone next to him.
We haven’t had any meltdowns to get him home since then and he almost fell asleep in there twice in the last couple of weeks :)
Hope that helps!

My ds loves asleep in his pram, I find it easier to wait until he's working up to a cry then push him slightly rough/gently and within 5 minutes clutching his wee teether Teddy (which without sounding biased is the cutest thing I've ever seen) he's out for the count, keep the TV as loud as you'd usually have it as we find this settles him more and top tip my mum taught me was "don't be too gentle with the pram" n by god it works haha

Neither of mine have liked this - the older one stopped about a year old and the younger one is 6 months and has only done it once - once! Even as a newborn! She will sleep in the car though.

Sorry, I don't have any advice but just to say you're not alone. It does feel restrictive the age she is now but mine was down to one nap by 15 months and then it was a lot easier as I only had to be home between 12 and 2.30.

I second the idea of draping a muslin or something over the pram to block out stimulation and bore them to sleep! Also, white noise has been great for us, though we have always used it from a few weeks.

I would try a sling/carrier.

7mo ds has recently gone like this.
I now put a thick blanket over the pram so it's dark while I stand on the spot and rock him to sleep. He has a muslin pressed against his cheek. Takes 5-10 min and I'll get a max 30 min nap from him. At home it'll be 2-3 hours.
So hard to stay home for naps though when you have a very energetic almost 3 year old too!
