Colder nights and baby's grobags - what do you do?

Hello,
So now the temperatures are changing and it's bitterly cold outside, my groegg is also telling me that our bedroom was as cold as 17c this morning!
My DS sleeps in a sleep suit with a 2.5 tog (as recommended) but when I got him up and out his grobag at 6:45am his little feet were cool and his hands & face were chilly! I was debating putting him in a higher tog grobag but when you look at room temperatures and what's recommended, it will say 2.5 tog.
I feel slight mum guilt that he may be cold and surely his feet shouldn't be! It's only going to get colder too!
My heating is on but unfortunately we have wooden flooring in our room and that doesn't help hold the heat very well.
What do you mums do or what would you advise?
TIA Smile

A fleecy sleepsuit is not recommended.

I wouldnt personally use a blanket over the top as a pp has said.

If room is cold.
A long sleeve vest
A sleepsuit with feet
And a 2.5 tog gro bag should be enough

I personally wouldn't add anything else unless baby kept waking and was unsettled

Much better to have a "cool footed" baby than a over heated one

My daughter has always run on the cooler side. She sleeps in a long sleeve vest, babygrow, fluffy socks, and a 3.5 tog sleeping bag with arms. Her room is between 19-21 degrees. We found this combo keeps her comfortable and she sleeps 12 hours through now x

My baby runs colder than the guidelines, he’s 6.5 months and wakes up often if he’s cold.

Last night was 19 degrees and he slept with a grosuit with quilted arms and a 2.5 tog wool sleeping bag. You can regulate your temperature better with wool so this makes me feel less worried about over heating.

However his feet did feel cool this morning so I think i’ll get some socks on him tonight!

I'm not sure about this either. DD wakes every 3 hours usually but last night she slept the first three hour stint when the heating was still on and settled again after feeding, but then woke up after an hour and wouldn't go back in the cot after that without waking and eventually crying. Eventually took her into bed with me and she fell straight to sleep. I wondered if she was too cold. She felt cool when I picked her up. I know not all adults require the exact same bedclothes when sleeping in the same temperature, so the same must be true for babies?

My little (19 months now, still in a sleeping bag) really feels the cold and wakes sobbing if he gets chilly. He is currently sleeping in fleecy trousers, socks, long sleeved vest, thin knitted jumper and thick knitted jumper with a high neck plus his 2.5 tog bag. In the early hours of the morning he'll come under the duvet with me in addition to this because our flat is freezing. I know babies are supposed to have cooler hands and feet, but I have found throughout his life that if they are cool to the touch he will wake every 20 minutes or so crying until he is made toasty. I am exactly the same, I must be really toasty to be able to fall (and then stay) asleep.

I'm happy that a lot of mums are saying their baby feels the cold because mine does too.
I know you should never let your baby be too hot (common sense) but every baby is definitely different!
Everyone's comments are truly appreciated. My DS has gone to bed in a vest, sleepsuit, a 2.5 tog gro bag AND socks tonight! Hopefully his little feet won't be as cool in the morning!

Leave the heating on at 18/19 then it’s the same temp right up until summer time. That’s what I do as I have one 2 year old who really feels the cold. The other 2 year old is permanently hot so although there are guidelines they are just that and each child is different.

DD's room is over the garage and much colder than the then other bedrooms. I got an oil heater you plug in and can set a thermostat.

PatchworkWellies · 22/11/2018 21:22

Completely agree that some babies feel the cold more. DS1 never did, he has coldest room in house which has been as low as 13 and rarely needs more than vest, sleep suit and sleeping bag. DS2 is now 6 months and took us ages to work out that his frequent might waking was part due to cold. Now he goes to bed in socks, vest, sleepsuit, cardigan, 2.5 together sleeping bag and a blanket. he's definitely not overheating, even with that lot on, back and tummy just feel warm, and he's not damp/sweaty. We kept adding a layer each couple of nights until he stopped waking from cold!!

Mumofsonny · 23/11/2018 05:47

I've exactly same issue! I feel colder so surely a baby must? I'm just going to get the next tog up.

Freezingheart · 23/11/2018 08:28

It’s a long time since my children were in sleeping bags but I simply used to adjust the clothing under them. In colder weather I simply used to put them in more clothes underneath a vest, baby grow etc. If they are waking up cold just put more clothes on them. Children often sleep just fine outside in prams etc in much colder weather so the cold in itself doesn’t bother them. I wouldn’t worry about cold hands (which are outside the bag) but the feet shouldn’t be too cool

Our daughter is in a long sleeve vest with a sleepsuit over it then a 2.5 tog IKEA sleeping bag.

We have a 3.5 tog bag for when it gets colder. Our heating isn't great here.

Magpie1976 · 23/11/2018 22:55

Baby sleeps in long sleeved top and 2.5 grobag. Temp set to 18c. Starting to think I'm under dressing her at night. Was always so worried about over heating at night.
