4am start moan!

Hi

Just a moan about the 4am starts from my 19mo!

Doesn’t sleep well - always got up early. Today it was 4.20am - spent 35 mins trying to get him back off but no joy.

It is a long day - hard to do a routine as all timings are out. Will now need two sleeps today but the second one can’t be too late or long.

Probably be grumpy today - me and him and I will have to go to bed at 8.30 again as he will probably do it tomorrow and work requires some level of concentration!

I’m finding it hard - 19 months of very broken sleep and no life of my own has left me a bit down. I’m always on my own on the W.e as DH works in the hospital.

I would love a lie in til 6! :)

Sorry for the moan!

My youngest used to do this! Anything between 2.30 and 5am- it drove us crazy. The sleep deprivation is awful.

I eventually put up a travel cot in the living room with the tv on and baby monitor and plonked him in there when he woke up before going back to bed, I used to come down with my older ones approx 7.30am and he'd be fast asleep.

A few told me that I shouldn't be putting him downstairs in front of the tv but it was either that or some very sleep deprived, frustrated parents!

DD wakes between 2 and 5 she's 3 in a few months and nothing makes any difference so I've got the TV in the bedroom now and put the TV on and lie down with my eyes closed.

My child used to wake at 5 am for 4 years. It was tough

Now at university and I'd give a lot to have those times back.

Watching CBeebies and having cuddles.

I miss the early years

Anyone who objects to the TV can be invited to stay over and get up to do worthwhile things when it's still night time

No advice I’m afraid but I feel your pain, last 2 nights with our 13 month old have been the worst we’ve ever had. He’s not well and hasn’t slept more than 2 hours either night- we’re all exhausted! His wailing also keeps waking our 10 week old so even when he does fall asleep she’s usually awake. Argh!!!

SnugglySnerd · 18/11/2018 06:28

All my kids are early risers. We've actually reached the point where if they all sleep until 5.30 that feels like a lie in. DH got up with DS at 4.45 today and we swapped an hour later so he can go back to bed for a bit.

I advice beyond we are still living this and our eldest is 6. In fairness, he usually sleeps later and he has handed the baton over to his sister. Who came into our bed at 4am. She is nearly 4 and we got her to go back to sleep until 5. It is so hard to explain the exquisite torture of a 4am start after broken sleep. Sending hugs. TV was our friend in the early years. Bringing him into you bed so you can doze may help. Heading to bed super early and trying to nap when they do was the only way we survived the early + disturbed sleep

Aww thanks for your replies!!

We do use the TV - but we have to go downstairs so as not to wake 3yo....that would be VERY bad lol!!

Bumble - wow hope you are ok with a 13mo and a 10week old. I think that would possibly kill me!! Take care xx

Thanks chosen! Yep it’s pretty tough but when he does actually sleep it’s just about tolerable Grin x

Lovelydovey · 18/11/2018 06:46

My 9yo and 6yo woke up at 4.30am and did not go back to sleep. We are in a hotel so they also kept us awake. DH is now refusing to take part in today’s plans and insisting that we go home after breakfast as he is tired. And to top it all off - the hotel boiler has broken overnight, we have no hot water and breakfast is still another 45 mins away.

I feel your pain.

My 17mo DD wake at 4am every day atm and it's like a form a torture when I have to work all day from 8:30-5 as well! 😩 we usually bring her on to the bed with us and she drops back off for a while (after wriggling all around the bed, kicking us in the face etc!!), maybe 5am if we are lucky! I'm just hoping things get better as she gets older! 🙏

Chosenbyyou · 18/11/2018 07:33

Lovely! Oh no :( I have done the hotel thing recently and we had the same. Bfast was at 8.30 and he woke us all up at 4.30 - 4 hours ina tiny room ahhhhh!

Feel bad for the people in near by rooms too cuz my DC are anything but quiet.

Sunday’s are hard too cuz nothing opens early so we are stuck in for hours. DH is still at work at the hospital and will need to sleep most of the day so it’s just me again :( xx
