My hummy is it worth the money?

Lo is 10 months and does not sleep well at all. It's not sleep regression as she's always been the same, we'd hoped to see an improvement by now but she still wakes crying multiple times a night. She doesn't want anything other than a cuddle and some times is not even awake just crying out in her sleep.

My hummy was recommended to us but they seem quite expensive when we've no idea if it will help. Has anyone used one to help their Lo's sleep better?

Isn't it just a way of playing white noise? Or another calming, constant noise? I suppose there is the comfort element if it's actually a teddy as well. I honestly doubt it's a miracle cure but have you tried white noise by other methods? Is there any pattern to her waking?

We have Ewan the dream sheep and he works fairly well but not on every occasion. Got him from marketplace for £5.... could be worth a look?

BertramKibbler · 14/11/2018 17:41

We play white noise on an old mobile all night. Works perfectly and the app was free!

Rosesared · 14/11/2018 18:44

Try Huckleberry sleep app...it's free. Give it a week or so. If it doesn't work, you haven't lost anything. If it works...awesome!

The fact it comes back on on a sensor when they stir is good but I’m sure other white noise toys do this too - the new Ewan has this feature too. I find our myhummy glitchy - the volume needs resetting every night and it often starts with the wrong white noise selected. It also churns through batteries. It’s no more special than any other white noise toy imo and so I’d say probably not worth the price tag

@FiresideTreats no pattern, it would be marginally easier to deal with if there was. Only tried to play white noise on YouTube which didn't work because of ads, now I know there's apps I'll try those too.

@BertramKibbler @Rosesared thanks I'll try the apps, problem is if it's constant I can hear it and that also keeps me awake.

@MaverickSnoopy @WeSaluteYou Thanks I will definitely have a look at Ewan, I was drawn to my hummy because of the sleep sensor but if Ewan now has this too then that's great!

Thanks everyone

Huckleberry is something different from whitenoise. If you want the best white noise...we went for a walk by the river after a big rain storm, put my phone on voice record and recorded about 3 minutes of the river in spate. We got home and I put the voice recorded clip of the river on repeat and voilá...sleeping baby!

BertramKibbler · 14/11/2018 22:11

Ha I’m about to sleep and have my own white noise on now! I missed it when the babies moved into their own room so I have it for an hour as I fall asleep.

MeadowHay · 15/11/2018 12:13

Does baby have a dummy at all? DD is nearly 5 months and wakes frequently in the night as you describe - doesn't even open her eyes at first, just starts to cry, and moves her head around. If we leave her she wakes herself up fully and gets in a hysterical crying fit and then it takes forever to settle her back down - but she has a dummy, and if we stick that in quickly she starts to suck it and goes straight back off to sleep. Not ideal as we still obviously wake frequently, but eventually she will learn to put it back in herself.

BentleyBelly · 15/11/2018 12:57

I didn't like it...it worked briefly when ds was tiny but didn't help as he got older...if anything I think it used to disturb him when something set the sensor off and it turned back on. It is a very tinny noise and drove my husband nuts.

practicallyperfectmummy · 15/11/2018 13:31

Try a white noise box from amazon, can have it playing constantly and it won't cut out or start randomly playing.

White noise on an old iPad

We have a Ollie the owl somebody bought for us for my baby shower (I believe it the same brand as the gro eggs). My baby is 4 months but we've used it since she came home from the hospital and again it has the cry sensor on it. It works really well for her, although we have it set on the lullaby rather than white noise, she definitely relates it to bed time and has been a brilliant sleeper since day 1. It goes on whilst we're settling her down and it's just part of the routine now. As someone has said though, they do eat through batteries so we got rechargeable batteries for it.
There are always loads of them, Ewan and sheep and my hummy for sale on Facebook for cheap so maybe get a second hand one just in case it doesn't work!
