Any advice for getting them both back to sleep on the early hours?!

We're currently in the process of getting our nine month old to sleep in the travel cot rather than in cot that clips on to the bed, with the aim of moving her into the room next door. At the moment she settles really well around seven and we have our evenings back BUT getting her to settle herself back to sleep is pretty variable.

I tend to sit beside her stroking and shushing and she's in a baby sleeping bag, but only after giving her a minute or two to fall asleep herself. Last night she was awake from three until five, getting crosser and crosser. I stroked and shushed and gave her water but nothing worked. Around 4.30 my three year old came in so ended up letting her cry it out inadvertently as I was trying to get him back to sleep (he's just learnt how to climb out of the cot) which I don't feel good about.

Any advice for tonight?!

Sorry, forgot to add that I've stopped feeding her at night but still breastfeeding during the day.

Has stopping feeding her at night coincided with this tricky wake-up phase? If so maybe she's hungry and not ready to stop? I'd personally do whatever it takes to get her back to sleep and not worry about bad habits or whatever, specially if there's a toddler to contend with too. Otherwise if she's not hungry/cold/hot/sick, I would just keep at the shushing/stroking - whatever you do she will grow out of this phase eventually. Good luck!
