My ds is 13 and half months old and has never really been a great sleeper but over the last week it's got 100 times worse. He is waking up every two hours completely inconsolable. I've tried feeding him and he pushes away the bottle, I use teething powders and gets and they don't do anything, tried calpol and that does very little too.

I should add he has started with a cold and had croup for the last two weeks. He's also been pushing his morning nap back and resisting his afternoon nap meaning he sometimes only has one nap of 2 hours a day. Could it be teething? Sleep regression?

Can he breathe through his nose? I recommend the calpol plug ins - expensive but keep the nose clear all night. BUT I don't know if you can use it when there's croup too.

Remember - this too will pass!!

Teething powder are homeopathy so they don’t do anything other than make you feel good.

If he is unwell then try cosleeping if you don’t already.

If he is teething try nurofen and anbesol oil. The calpol plug in are great for colds.

A couple of things spring to mind for me:

He could be making the transition to one nap, in which case there may be some disruption to his sleep. You could try him on one nap and see how he gets on. Two hours of daytime sleep at his age would be pretty normal, I think. May be a case of making bedtime slightly earlier as he adjusts.

Could he be cutting his first molars? I remember this was the time they came through for my DS1 and we went through a few nights of proper screamy upset. Calpol didn't seem to make any difference. Nurofen seemed to work a bit better.

Hope it all passes quickly for you...
