8 year old bedtime

I have a ds just turned 8, and a dd5. Both have always been very early risers. In the past 6 months or so, since ds is able to tell the time, he has a clock in his room and he does not shout us/come out of his room til 7am. We found before this he was waking earlier and earlier to watch tv/iPad. He can now do what he likes quietly in his room til 7am.

My dd is still an early riser, but was waking usually around 6ish. The clock change has meant she is now getting up at 5am again. She comes into our room and if it is after 6 she can watch the iPad til 7.

DS is not at all happy that he must stay in his room til 7 when his sister is up "whenever she likes".

Both go to bed at 7pm ish.

I am not willing to go back to having ds up before 7am and I know at some point I have to tackle getting dd to stay in her room til 7am too.

Am I expecting too much? What time do your 8 year olds go to bed / get up?

I'm thinking that I hold firm on 7am (hopefully for the whole house soon!!!) but maybe rethink a later bedtime for my just turned 8 ds as he is getting older?

My 8 year old goes to bed at 8. He usually gets up between 6 and 6:30 but he goes downstairs by himself makes his breakfast and watches TV until we get up.

I have this rule in my house too. My DS8 has had a digital, light up, clock in his room for a few years and knows after 7am he can get up. It's been that way for a few years now. Maybe try a digital clock for DD

7pm is quite an early bedtime. Especially for an 8 year old.
I would try pushing their bedtime back and see if that helps.

5 is plenty old enough to follow the same rules as her older brother. Get her a light up and/or digital clock and she needs to stay in bed til 7.
Rules in this house (9 and 7, been like this for the 3 years we have lived here) are from 5.15 you can put the lights on and read. Up at 5.45 (out of the house 6.45, hence the crazy hours!). And yes to a later bedtime - we are up early, and 7 yr old goes at 7pm (and this needs to get a bit later), 9 yr old at 8pm.

Dd is 9, her lights out time is 9pm. She sets her alarm for 7 and watches her phone for half an hour in bed. She could come downstairs if she wanted. From when she was 4 until last year she would come downstairs when she woke up (usually 7ish).

I think your 5yo is old enough to stay in her room until 7.

Yr 4 DD goes to bed at 8.00 and reads until 8.30. Usually wakes at 6.30 and can read or do things at her desk (drawing, word searches, writing) until 7.00.
Yr 2 DS goes to bed at 7.30 and is usually asleep within minutes (to the extent he hasn't realised DD is up later as she is upstairs getting her PJs on when he goes to bed). He usually wakes from 6.30am and can also do things at his desk but prefers to come into our room and have a cuddle.
No TV or iPads before school in our house.

I have an almost 8yo ds and almost 5yo ds. Bedtime routine starts around 7.15pm and lights out around 8pm. The older one gets up around 6.30/6.45 and goes downstairs to watch YouTube. Younger one sometimes sleeps in til a bit later.

Thanks all. I think I'm going to work on getting the 5 year old on the same morning rules - stay in room and unplugged til 7am. I'll consider pushing back the 8 year olds bedtime too. Interesting to hear other 8 year olds sleep/awake times, maybe I've cling on to 7pm for too long.
I did not think the clock change would still be such a faff by this stage!

I think you've been unlucky as my two haven't been massively affected by the clocks going back this year! First time tho.
