Nursing to sleep

My 5 month old son was always bounced/walked to sleep. Up until 3 months he would only sleep in our arms. The last 2 months we were able to bounce him to sleep and transfer him to the bed. We used a birthing ball for all his naps and night time sleeps. Since the last 1 week ( from week 21), he has started nursing to sleep. I don't mind nursing him to sleep for his naps as well but he only naps for 30 mins if I manage to transfer him to the bed. On my lap, he can nap for 1 hr or more. He simply resists all other sleep methods. Rocking, bouncing, walking, swinging, nothing seems to works. He screams the moment we hold him in our arm and assume the cradle hold. He resists shush/pat too. I am at a loss as I can't get any work done if I have to bf him to sleep for all his naps. He takes 45 mins to 1 hr on the boob to fall asleep and usually needs a feed every 2.5 hrs. Am open to suggestions on improving his naps.

PS: not a fan of CIO

Blimey I don't know how you cope

What about trying a dummy?

Stellarbella · 23/10/2018 21:52

Flowers that sounds awful op.

I have no advice (as a FTM to a six week old) but I too have a baby who will only sleep in my arms 😬, so will be watching with interest as I expect I have all this to come.

Can I ask what you did at night with your baby when he wanted to sleep on you?

GowriSankar01 · 24/10/2018 08:23

@TooMinty, he doesn't take a dummy nor does he suck his thumb. He doesn't sleep in the pram either. He does seem to like the ErgoBaby carrier but even in the carrier he is taking forever to fall asleep. Yesterday I had to walk around the mall for 1.5 hrs for him to get a 30 min nap.

@Stellarbella, we co-slept from early on and he settled in our bed at night after all the rocking and bouncing. For night wakings, he feeds to sleep. My DP was kicked out to make space for the baby. I hope your lo learns to self settle soon.

Not sure what you can do if all other methods aren't working and you don't want to do CC or CIO. Just co-sleep for naps too or read a book while he naps on you? When you say you don't get any work done, do you mean housework? You might just have to lower your standards and just do the bare minimum!
