Ideas when outgrown travel cot?

DD has just gone into a toddler bed. No way would I put her in a proper height bed yet, especially when away from home. Stayed at PIL's this weekend and took the travel cot as she's only been out of her cot a week or so. It's too small for her now really and she didn't sleep well. Any suggestions? I've looked at junior ready bed but lots of suggestions say they're noisy and not great for toddlers. I'm looking for something portable we can take where we go.

Why can’t she go in an ordinary bed? There not usually high enough to do any damage even if she did fall (which is unlikely)? Otherwise put the mattress on the floor.
I don’t think anyone i knew ever had a toddler bed, are they a thing?

How old is she? None of mine have gone into a toddler bed, they went straight into a normal bed.

Another option for travelling is a ready bed. They are inflatable beds with a cover built in.

Could you buy a bed guard to take if you are concerned? Mine have just used normal beds.

I used the backs of dining chairs to create fence to keep DS in real bed at that stage.

We've used a blow up mattress once the travel cot was outgrown. Only when a proper bed wasn't available though.

Thanks Cherry for taking the time to post such an incredibly helpful reply.

I've looked at ready beds but apparently they're very squeaky. Think I've found a solution now anyway in the Shrunks toddler bed.

I don't want her in the big bed- apart from the fact I'm concerned about her falling out, at PILs there is only one bed and I don't really want to share with her as she's a massive fidget. She's better in her own space.

Mine went straight into a standard sized single at around 18 months, home and away.
Friends of ours used a standard single blow up bed.

We use this (out of stock in Argos but can get from amazon).

It’s brilliant, very comfy, doesn’t rustle like ready beds do and he can’t fall out!

Probably not the solution you're looking for but my son now 5 went from cot bed to Normal bed age 2 and I popped a pool noodle from Poundland under the fitted sheet at each side to stop him rolling out. Worked a treat!

We camp a lot and used ready beds for a while but now both children age 3 & 5 are fine with vango children's sleeping bags

I was coming on the thread to recommend the Shrunks bed(s). Brought it across the world, and had to fight off relatives & strangers who wanted to keep it!

Blow it up at the start of your stay, stash it under a normal bed during the day. Rolls up quite small (don’t lose the bag!). I believe there are 2 sizes.

My DD is in a toddler bed (cotbed so just took the sides off) and we have a blow up bed like the one already linked for when we're away, she loves it.

Slappinthebass · 18/10/2018 09:13

We've not had a problem with the junior readybed rustling. We've had a gruffalo one since my 5 year old was about 18 months, and she still had plenty of room in it when we used it in the spring this year when camping, though I've read other reviewers saying it was outgrown a lot sooner. The quality isn't the best though, the fabric is cheap and tore easily, and it's not warm enough on its own for camping so we add a duvet. It might be in a house though. Aldi often do their version of the one linked from Argos, you might find a very cheap one second hand. Or do you still have her cot mattress? Maybe that could be used on its own.
