Beds??!

I wanted to ask a few other mum's about their bed situation with regards to kids... my ds got into the habit of coming downstairs through the night a few months ago and we couldn't break it at all.

So I did a bit of research and thought maybe it was his bed as he fell out alot and his rooms quite small so he couldn't really move around but he hated having a side on it too.

This last 2 week's iv moved him to the spare room which is double in size to his and further away from our room, and put him on a double mattress on the floor as a trial. Hes now going to bed at 7-8, falling asleep in bed, not trying to come downstairs through the night, hes still getting up at 5 but I can cope with that if were not having screaming matches through the night.

We're moving house in 4 weeks and I said to dh that since its workingI would rather get him a new double mattress on his floor for the new house then looking at getting a bed frame in the future as I think he needs the manoevreability but dh thinks that I'm mad for even considering it and he needs a proper bed??

Can I have some thoughts please??

If the double mattress on the floor gets you all a full nights sleep then do it!! What does DH propose?

He hasnt had many ideas tbh, his main one was to get him a single bed and put a side on it but i said that defeats the object of him being able to roll around! he sounds like he thinks its maybe neglectful but iv told him that its not like were refusing to get him a bed its just that hes comfier and sleeps better not on a bed!

What about a single mattress on the floor first and then if that works then get a lower to the floor bed?

That's what we're doing atm but with a double mattress instead. His bedroom in the new house is more than big enough for him to have a double so I figured he may aswell have one, then it's extra room for him!

We recently put a double bed in my 21 month old DD's room and got rid of her cot bed - it just wasn't big enough for a small person who moves around a lot in her sleep. She loves it! Asks to go to bed now! Don't think we'll ever get her to sleep in a single bed, but don't see an issue with that. It'll also come in handy if and when we have more guests than our spare rooms can accommodate. I can highly recommend it.

Thankyou that gives me alot of reassurance that I'm not insane!!

My son has been in a double since he was almost 3. His room doubles as our spare room when family are visiting. We had a flip up side on it but he's never needed it. He sleeps much better in it than he ever did in a cot bed.

Well yeah and it saves you money when he is older Wink

We had a double on the floor for a long time. Got us all more sleep so it was worth it. Resigned ourselves to the fact she's never going to have a single so now in a double frame too. I think you're supposed to put something like just slats under it for airflow but we never did.
