Airwrap bumpers?

My 6 month old went into his own room three weeks ago and we are really struggling to settle him to sleep. When he was in our room he slept in a basinett in the corner of the room, we would put him in after a few cuddles and he would slowly drift off to sleep and he has slept through the night since being two month old. Since going into his own room and transferring to his cot he is becoming so difficult to settle! The second he knows it is time for sleep he starts to scream, we’ve been rocking and bouncing him and now even that isn’t working! Once he is asleep he sleeps through the night, although sometimes he wakes up and cries and I have to go in.
I’m starting to wonder if the cot and his own room are feeling too big. I really want to try and make things a little easier as soon as possible before things get any worse because he is becoming more and more upset every night. I’ve found something online called airwrap bumpers, but I’m worried as I know bumpers aren’t safe, has anyone used them to make the cot a little cosier and how did you find them? If anyone has any tips I would LOVE to hear them!!!!

i found a review of someone who tested one here

We used an air wrap bumper and had no problems. As far as I'm aware, they are not against safety advice unless things have changed in the 3 years since I had my son.

ALL bumpers are strangulation hazards and totally unnecessary!

I'd rather a bumped head than a dead child.

Used airwrap with all my three dc
There is no risk of suffocation or entanglement because they weave tightly in and out of the bars, they are not loose at all. You can get individual bumpers though op they come in a set and each one velcro around each bar, aldi have them in baby events usually. If your baby still fits in the bassinet can you try putting that inside the cot until he's used to being in a different room then try just in the cot?

I used to roll towels up and wedge them either side of both my dds, 5yrs apart....my granny gave me the tip

Thanks guys, I think I’m gonna try the bassinet in his room tonight and see how he settles in that. I have just sat down with a massive bar of chocolate after getting him down for his nap 😒
He is becoming more and more unsettled at the idea of sleep! I hate hearing him cry, so I don’t want to try the cry it out method but I did leave him for 5 minutes just now because he was crying hysterically even when I was rocking him. I don’t know if he’s fighting his sleep, doesn’t want to be left alone in his room, hates his cot or all of it 🙈

He fell asleep tonight with no rocking or crying! He used to scratch the mesh sides of his basinett and seemed to like the sound to go to sleep so I lay him in there and at first he cried but I started to slowly scratch the sides and he stopped crying instantly and slowly fell asleep! I moved him into his cot when he was asleep, I think I will try this for a few nights and if it continues to work I will buy the mesh bumpers which go around the bars as these seem perfectly safe, I am 100% against bumpers and he doesn’t even have a blanket he uses a grobag but those bumpers seem safe to me!

I use airwrap - correctly fitted there is no strangulation risk that I can see, and it's as breathable as the average travel cot.

As far as making the cot more appealing, I've had some success with spending more playtime in their room during the day so it becomes a familiar and fun space, not just the place you go to leave them. A few minutes playing on the floor next to the cot is easy to build into the bedtime and nap routine. Over time it can build positive associations that help with bedtime.

Thank you tinymeteor
I do this with him, we have stories in his bedroom and he loves to roll around his floor, but now you come to mention it, most of the time we go in there it’s for songs and stories and pre-sleep routines so I will start doing more of his fun daily stuff in there too so he doesn’t just associate his room with sleeping

Op if he likes the scratchy noise, have you tried white noise?

gizmomonki · 07/10/2018 20:37

I used a sleepyhead in the cot and now have a grand sleepyhead he sleeps through. Without he was banging himself all over the place.

greendale17 · 07/10/2018 20:41

Another vote for Airwrap- no strangulation risk as you have to weave it in and out of the cot

unexpectedtwist · 07/10/2018 23:06

There is a strangulation risk with all of them. Unless you can be certain it won't ever come loose then by all means, take the risk.
