Can you buyer higher tog? Are they needed?

My LO has just moved up to a duvet instead of a sleeping bag but it seems so light and thin!

I’m interested in the answer to this too. My DD has just moved into a single bed but I got her a 4 tog as that’s what she’s always had. We do live in a new build so it never really gets that cold and she hasn’t ever complained she’s cold except when she’s been ill. I worry I’ll overheat her with anything thicker but agree they seem ridiculously thin!

That's my thoughts too! I know little ones are different to us but even on a warm night I'd freeze with that thin thing!

Hoping to get some tips on this...

I've never been able to find higher than 4 tog for the cotbed. Can't now and couldn't 3 years ago when I was looking for DD1. DD1 never complained, but she is a human radiator like her dad!

I bought 2 and put them both in the cover together for very cold nights. If they get too hot they can push the duvet off.

I would imagine the 4 tog maximum is in case people use them for very young babies who aren’t able to regulate their temperature and could overheat easily.

Advice is you shouldn't use higher than 4.5 tog with a cot bed and I believe also in a single bed when they are young. There is much more risk of them overheating than getting cold. Does seem a bit weird though!

BendingSpoons · 01/10/2018 21:40

Dunelm buying guide says 'An adult size duvet will trap more air around the smaller frame of a child and so they will be kept warmer at a lower tog'.

dementedpixie · 01/10/2018 21:42

4.5 tog is maximum recommended for use in a cot bed. 10.5tog is maximum recommended for a single bed

My dd has started using a 4 tog duvet and I thought it wouldn't be warm enough but she's kicking it off most nights and it gets quite chilly in her room. Children tend to be warmer during sleep and don't need so much bedding, when it gets really cold I will just put another layer of clothes under her pjs
