Moving from cot to bed

I know this has been done to death but interested in hearing from those who've done the move as to whether you think this is a sign my 20 month old is ready to move to a bed:

When waking in the morning he used to sit and chatter to himself, grab some books which were within reach and play until one of us went in to get him up. Could be anything up to an hour.

Now when he wakes up he wants to get up straight away and screams if we try and settle him back down and leave the room.

He's started playing in his room during the day with me there and I wondered whether a bed might be a better option so he can get up in the mornings and have a play if it's too early.

Also, hes only ever slept in a sleeping bag because he moves around the cot so much in the night. Do you find they suddenly stay still if you give them a duvet and pillow or would we be ok to leave him in a bag until hes older?

I really have no clue about all this and am a bit nervous of trying anything new!

You can get gro to bed bedding which is a duvet which works like a gro bag, we used this for ds1 when transitioning from gro bag to duvet. I think you could try the bed and it might mean he can keep himself occupied with some toys when he first wakes up. Some people find the gro clock really works, we tried it but ds1 soon realised how to change it to yellow before it was time so didn't work for us.

Thanks have ordered the gro to bed set and see how he gets on. I'm assuming this can be used whilst it's still in cot mode to get him used to it before taking off the sides?? I'm sure I'm making a bigger deal of this than needed but for some reason I'm getting in a right state about getting it right and not messing up his sleep as hes a really good sleeper normally.

I wouldn’t move him until he’s dangerous climbing out. It’s so much easier when they are in their cot. How are you going to keep him in his room?

We were going to put a stair gate across his door. Hes not tried to climb out at all yet.

Keep him in the cot as long as you possibly can!
