Don't know what to do

My DS is a week away from being 3 months old and up until now has exclusively slept in his Moses basket right next to my bed.

He's beginning to outgrow his basket. So need to find alternatives.

My DH thinks it's time we put him to bed in his cot. (In our bedroom) but obviously it wouldn't be right next to me at night so that worries me I've gotten used to him being right next to me and being
Able to lean over and make sure he's ok

But even if we do this

I'm not sure what to do with him in the day as he uses his Moses basket a lot in the day (doesn't sleep in the day at all though Grin)

What should I do?

I’ve had a poddle pod and now a toddle pod for downstairs that we use for supervised naps
Could you get a 2nd hand next to me? Mine is a Babylo one and it was cheaper than the chicco one and I really like it but to be honest you will get used to the cot being further away x

@Whymustyoubringinthebirds Hi thanks for your reply

Really in the day time, I need something for him to go in, not necessarily for supervised naps but more for him to be in while I'm doing some cleaning or whatever

He doesn't sleep in the day anyway

He has a bouncy chair but I don't like him sitting in that all day so alternate now between bouncy chair and Moses basket in the day time

At night I guess il have to put him in his cot

He usually falls asleep anywhere between 8pm and 10pm but I don't go up to be until 11-12 and I don't want him upstairs in the cot without me there

Do you have room to set a travel cot up downstairs? Pad it out with a quilt (mattresses are quite thin).

sxriusblack · 28/09/2018 20:31

@gamerchick thanks I did wonder about that but space is quite tight downstairs and I don't think I'd have room for it

His Moses basket has been so useful so far as I can just move it from room to room so I can get on with stuff and still keep my eye on him and have him with me the whole time

I have a 6 month old and during the day I have always put him in a baby carrier, buggy, bouncy chair, bumbo, on a playmat, baby gym, jumperoo etc - but granted I don't get a lot of cooking or cleaning done while he's awake! Until recently he used to sleep in the flat pram part of his buggy system during the day.

For nighttime, I use a Respisense breathing monitor clipped to his nappy and a video monitor so I can keep a close eye on him - maybe a set up like that would give you some reassurance when you move yours to the cot?

Ragh · 28/09/2018 20:48

So he's in the basket awake during the daytime? Get yourself a couple of playmats perhaps with arches. He must be so bored!

sxriusblack · 28/09/2018 20:55

@Ragh He does have a playmat with arches on it and he does use that quite a bit but the problem is he's awake constantly from 7am until anytime between 8pm and 10pm so I can't sit and supervise him all day on the play may otherwise I'd never get anything done

so I either put him in the Moses basket or bouncy chair and take him in the kitchen while I do some bits in the kitchen.

I don't like him on the playmat in the kitchen while I'm doing stuff because I have two cats and their main hang out is the kitchen

And most recently I don't like him in his bouncy chair without strict supervision because somehow yesterday I noticed dried blood on the chair and he had somehow cut the back of his ankle on the chair Confused

@ShadowKitty thanks

No getting stuff done in the day is hard as he's awake from 7am until anytime between 8pm and 10pm

He doesn't ever nap in the day at all which wasn't too bad at first as he just sat happily

But he's stared teething earlier now too so I get two hours in the morning whilst he's awake when he's happy but by lunchtime he's a nightmare now

Thanks for your suggestions

Hi OP!

Do you have a pram with a carry cot? He could be laid in there during the day Smile my DD is months and I alternate between laying in her play gym, laying on her changing mat but propped up in her feeding pillow, or in her Mamaroo which swings her about.

When she outgrew her Moses basket we put her straight in her cot in our room and she really settled well in it, slept much better when she wasn't waking herself up hitting the sides anymore. It was strange the first few nights not having her next to me but I soon got used to it and I'm sure you will too Smile

*my DD is 5 months, sorry!

crazycatlady5 · 28/09/2018 21:25

He must be chronically overtired if he is awake from morning until 8pm! Do you try to get him to sleep during the day? Rocking, feeding, dummy, pram etc?

sxriusblack · 28/09/2018 21:48

@crazycatlady5 Yes he wakes between 7am - 8am and then goes to sleep between 8pm - 10pm

Today for example he was 8am until 9pm. He won't even nap for ten minutes in the day. Not ever.

I've tried everything. Taking him out in the pram. Putting him down to sleep quietly. Rocking him. Feeding him. Trying to get him to sleep on me. Dummy. You name it, I've tried it.

He just doesn't sleep in the day. At all.

My friend is always telling me that it's not right and he shouldn't be awake for more than two hours at a time and I should arrange to see some sleep therapist and she sent me the details, etc.

He sleeps well at night though. He usually wakes for one feed or sometimes none. Never more than one though.

@LetsHaveAnotherGo Hi thanks

Yes he has a carry cot so I could use that in the day.

I need to look for a new bouncy type chair thing as his is awful!
