I dont no what to im sitting here tired after the 3rd night in a row where i have fed my lo his night feed sat up with him burped him hes been asleep upright on me for at 30 mins i put him down then he grunts himself awake and takes about an hour or so before he goes bk to sleep. I dint no what to do! I dunno if its reflux or whether its day night confusion. He had it for last few weeks. Hes 5 weeks. Do you think it could be grunting awake as he just doesn't want ti be in bed on his own. I feel like he really had day and night and now he grunts his way to properly awake.hes formula fed. Please help.x

Is he grunting because he is struggling to breathe? Can you watch his naked chest while he is doing it and see if it is moving easily up and down, or if its kind of sucking in when he is breathing in. If that is the case, then you need to call the doctor for advice straight away.

Other possibilities, does he have a snotty nose? Are you sure he is fully burped? The ultimate burp test is lay them flat on their back for a minute or two and then sit them bolt upright for a minute and see if anything else comes up.

Either way, if it continues, maybe call the GP in the morning to double check, 5 weeks is very little.

Try giving him a dummy - soothes, helps with reflux and if he has wind. Could also try massaging his tummy and pumping his legs. I doubt he is unwell unless he seems lethargic or distressed but do trust your instincts on that.

Brownieb · 27/09/2018 04:41

Oh and swaddle him

SnowWhite26 · 27/09/2018 04:46

My baby used to do this, usually it was wind but was also worse when she had a cold x

RLOU30 · 27/09/2018 05:04

My baby always did this up until 10 weeks ish. It was definitely wind and lots of it, they just won’t settle nicely without getting it all up. I know it’s awful waking them but might be worth an extra try Sad

Rlou is right Sad

SnowWhite26 · 27/09/2018 19:01

Thanks for replys. Any good burping positions?

Over the shoulder was best for me, failing that across the knee. You have my sympathies, I remember this like it was yesterday continuous winding Flowers it’s better now x

@SnowWhite26 my DD (9 weeks) was like this. DH slept through the grunts, but I couldn't! Turns out she had reflux (she had a lot of other symptoms too though).

CaptainCorrigan · 27/09/2018 20:56

As others have said sounds like trapped wind. Try tiger in the tree hold and walk round the room, used to always get it out one end or the other for my little one Grin

SnowWhite26 · 27/09/2018 21:11

Did they wake baby up. He generally doesnt wake im night feeds except if hes really windy or poos .
